Donald Trump says he's ready to commit to 'more than one' debate with Kamala Harris and claims she is more 'radical' on the border than Biden

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday said he was ready and willing to take on Kamala Harris in a debate after she was anointed as his new opponent.

The next debate was due to be Trump against Joe Biden on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC.

But that was in doubt after Biden dropped out and the former president expressed doubts about letting the network take charge.

On Tuesday, in a briefing call with reporters, he dismissed Harris's ability as a campaigner and said he was ready to debate her more than once.

'I'd want to,' he said. 'I think it's important.

'I'm not thrilled about ABC because they're truly fake news.

'I watched last night. They're actually trying to make a hero out of Joe Biden when he was the worst president in history.'

Trump and his campaign have pivoted rapidly to attacking Harris after Biden announced Sunday that he would not seek reelection.

And the former president said he could see multiple showdowns with Harris on the debate stage.

'I don't like the idea of ABC, I would be willing to do more than one debate, actually,' he said.

Trump is already buoyed by knocking one candidate out of the race with a debate. It was Biden's halting, awkward appearance on the debate state in Atlanta that triggered the first doubts and calls for him to stand aside.

Harris, he told reporters, held no fears after her disastrous campaign for president in 2020 ended almost as soon as it had begun.

'So if she campaigns that way now and this is only going to be tougher, although she does have a lot of support from the fake news. There's no question about that,' he said.

'But if she campaigns the way she campaigned then, you know, I suspect she won't be too tough.'

He made his comments during a call designed to tie Harris to the past three and half years of crisis at the border.

She was appointed by Biden to tackle the long-term factors behind immigration from the 'Northern Triangle' of Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. She helped drive $5 billion of investment.

However, Republicans have successfully spread the idea that she was 'border czar,' responsible for the entire immigration crisis.

Trump and two border agent union officials hammered that idea on the call.

'She's the same as Biden, but much more radical. She's a radical left person ,' said Trump.

'This country doesn't want a radical left person to destroy it. She's far more radical than he is. She wants open borders. She wants things that nobody wants.'

Trump said he plans to make more trips to the border during the campaign.
