Planespotters get more than they bargained for after standing behind jet to get the perfect shot...

This is the moment planespotters get more than they bargained for after standing directly behind a jet to get the perfect picture.

Large groups of people can be seen standing with their phones in hand on the road next to Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport in Greece.

The airport is a popular spot for jet enthusiasts wanting to see spectacular landings, like in 2022 when a Wizz Air jet skimmed just yards over tourists' heads as it came to land over turquoise Mediterranean waters.

As the plane starts to set off, the hilarious footage shows people getting blown backwards as they attempt to film the spectacle.

With the wind whipping across the gravel, some are then extraordinarily pushed into the sea as they can't stop themselves from falling over.

Posting the video on TikTok, the person who recorded the footage joked: 'And thats why you don't stand there!'

Commenting beneath, one person said: 'Pilots must be laughing,' with laughing emojis.

Another also added: 'Didn't want go have a swim.. Plane said otherwise.'

Measuring just a mile in length and built yards from the sea, Skiathos Airport's landing strip is particularly short, meaning pilots have to come in to land far lower than they would on other runways.

Several people regularly gather on the beach and a road that runs along a narrow bit of land between the sea and the runway.

In August 2022, even the seasoned plane spotters appeared shocked as the Airbus jet barrelled towards the tarmac and narrowly cleared the airport's perimeter fence.

The video opens by showing the plane in the distance cruising towards the airport before people starting shouting in surprise over the roar of the engines as the pink and white jet swoops down until it is just a matter of yards over the heads of the plane spotters, and even wobbles slightly as it prepares for touchdown.

As it narrowly clears the perimeter fence, it is so low that it kicks up dust and sand into the air and ruffles the hair of one man who is seen in the footage flinching.

In another angle from a second camera, people's clothes are shown being buffeted by the gust caused by the jet. One young girl is even shown falling over backwards - knocked down by the force of the jet - while a woman loses her hat.

A similar death-defying airport can be found at Princess Juliana international airport in Saint Martin.

Like Skiathos, the Caribbean airport has a short runway - of just 1.4 miles - forcing planes to approach at low altitude. Spectators will often gather on the island's Maho Beach, a stretch of golden sand that separates the airport's runway and the stunning blue Caribbean sea.

As with the others, Phuket International Airport's runway is only separated from the ocean by a picturesque beach, meaning people often gather on the golden sands or stand in the ocean to watch planes fly overhead.

Photographs from the beach show tourists often pose as jets soar in to land, capturing spectacular shots of the underside of passenger planes in the stunning island setting.
