BMW has issued another recall of over 290,000 vehicles in North America this month due to an interior cargo rail detachment.

The vehicles were recalled after a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed faulty bolts could cause the cargo rail to fall off in a rear crash.

Offiicals said the detachment could also increase the risk of injury.

The recall applies to the following 2018-2023 BMW vehicles: X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i and X3 M.

All BMW dealers will replace the faulty bolts free of charge, and owner notification letters will be mailed next month.

BMW first heard about this problem in August 2022 after an 'extreme rear crash' involving a 2022 BMW X3, according to FOX 13.

The company was later served with legal documents in March 2024, during which they inspected the vehicle.

It is unclear if the driver and possible passengers were injured or if anyone involved received a settlement.

All four vehicles in the latest recall come from within the X3 models.

However, they are different from one another despite them all being SUVs.

Dealerships are not allowed to sell existing 2023 X Models with factory cargo rails until new hardware arrives, according to Auto Blog.

No 2024 BMW vehicles have been impacted by this or any other recalls that have occurred this month.

BMW recalled nearly 400,000 vehicles earlier this month due to faulty airbag inflators that could explode.

Unlike BMW's latest July recall, the faulty airbag issue only applied to vehicles in the US.

The sedans that were part of the recall recently had their original steering wheels replaced with an M-sport wheel.

The company also announced a recall of 44,000 SUVs in Canada even earlier this month due to faulty bag inflators.

Inflator explosions can result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other passengers and could lead to injury or death, according to the NHTSA.
