Simone Biles STUNS fans with outrageous vault in Olympics practice

It's fair to say that American gymnastics legend Simone Biles is set up for a grand return to the Olympic stage.

After sitting out for most of the Tokyo Olympics following her battle with 'The Twisties', Biles has returned to the Summer Games in Paris and is ready to compete.

She's sent the internet into a frenzy early on Thursday morning - landing a move known as the Yurchenko double pike.

The move involves a roundoff into the springboard and a back handspring into the vault table.

Not only did Biles cleanly pull this off, but she then flipped twice in mid-air and then stuck the landing.

It's a move that's become an iconic part of Biles' repertoire - and one no other woman has completed. It's so associated with Biles that the routine has been named after her and is known as the 'Biles II' in the women's gymnastics world.

But this was also one of the routines that led to her developing 'the twisties' - a phenomenon where gymnasts suddenly lose the ability to maintain body control in the air - back in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

In 2020 trials, Biles fell off the beam, flew out of bounds twice in her floor routine, and didn't stick her landing in the vault.

Biles is known for having particularly difficult routines - with the Biles II given the honor as the most difficult vault in women's artistic gymnastics when it was given a temporary difficulty of 6.6 before the Tokyo Olympics.

She completed the move at the 2023 World Championships, where it was assigned a difficulty of 6.4, with a 0.5 point neutral reduction for having a coach on the mat to spot her for safety.

But it's clear to see that Biles looks more confident than before and is ready to take on Paris with teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera.
