Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman spent the night at a local hospital on Wednesday after his son suffered a major health scare.

According to his wife Chelsea, Freeman rushed out of Dodger Stadium after LA's 8-3 defeat to the San Francisco Giants and headed straight to a nearby emergency room to be with their youngest boy Maximus.

The three-year-old is said to have come down with what doctors believed was transient synovitis - an illness which typically causes extreme pain in the hip - during the family's trip to the MLB All-Star Game in Texas earlier this month.

Chelsea, who has been married to Freddie for the last 10 years, initially wrote on Instagram on Wednesday night: 'Please say a prayer for Maximus... Dr says he developed transient synovitis from the viral infection he had [at] all star week...

'Day 3 of not being able to sit, stand or walk... Any tips to help toddlers take/keep down medicine? He is usually good at taking medicine but he keeps spitting it out'.

Thankfully, the internet personality revealed on Thursday that Maximus' prognosis now looks good after they were discharged from hospital at around 3:30am PT.

She wrote alongside a photo of Freddie lying with Maximus in the hospital: 'Max update: We ended up taking him to the ER last night. Freddie met me straight from the game.

'He stopped eating or drinking and was very lethargic. It took 2 attempts to get IV in and Max was so brave he didn't even cry.'

Maximus' tests fortunately came back negative for any infections or active viruses as doctors hydrated him and gave him anti-inflammatory medicine through the IV. He also underwent an x-ray and ultrasound.

'He still cannot bear any weight to stand or walk so we will be closely monitoring him,' Chelsea continued. 'If he doesn't improve in 48hrs he needs to go back to the hospital.'

She then concluded the post by saying: 'There is really nothing worse than seeing your child in pain. My heart breaks for all the families that have it worse. Thank you so much for the prayers.'

The couple tied the knot in 2014 after starting dating three years earlier, having first met while Chelsea was in college.

It is unclear whether Freddie will be involved in the Dodgers' next game against the Giants on Thursday, which is due to begin at 4:10pm ET (1:10pm PT).
