A college student has deeply divided the internet after she revealed she wore her mother's perfume to meet-up with her dad and his new girlfriend.

Kayla Menoscal, who is in her early 20s, posted a quirky TikTok over the weekend revealing that she was on her way to visit her dad, David Menoscal, and his new girlfriend while wearing her mom's signature perfume scent Coach Poppy.

The young woman said she only wears the perfume, which retails for around $60, for 'special occasions.'

The Northeastern University student was wearing a white tank top and a Boston Red Sox hat while roaming the streets to the damning sounds of Fleetwood Mac's Silver Springs lyric: 'You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you.'

Although Menoscal seemed unbothered by the petty move, many commenters were quick to call her out, saying: 'Or just let your day be happy, [I don't know].'

'Is he supposed to be single forever?' one commented.

'Idkkkk, if the [girlfriend] is nice, is this a way of getting back at your dad for moving on after his wife died…?' another questioned.

But plenty more were on Menoscal's side, with one woman saying she 'all of sudden' feels the 'need to get a signature scent.'

'If my child doesn’t do this for me, I will have failed at life,' another woman wrote.

Another agreed, writing: 'Period. I hope my daughter would do this for me.'

'You’re a queen. Much respect to you for having your mom’s back after death,' one user wrote.

'I mean, it’s cold — but I get it,' one man wrote.

She also thanked her haters for 'all the hilarious comments calling me cruel, and condemning me, and telling me I'm a terrible person.' And said her dad and his girlfriend laughed about the prank

She got the idea after walking to the meet-up in the wind and getting whiffs of the perfume as she went, which reminded her of her late mother and she wondered if it would do the same for her dad. The young woman said she only wears the perfume for 'special occasions'

In a follow-up video, Menoscal revealed the perfume was Coach Poppy and that she had around half a bottle left.

She also thanked her haters for 'all the hilarious comments calling me cruel, and condemning me, and telling me I'm a terrible person.'

'My dad, his girlfriend, her son, and I were all laughing all day. You guys really came in clutch with the entertainment,' she said in the video. 'More than that, it was really just lighthearted. At the end of the day, it's just a perfume.'

As for if the prank really worked, Menoscal said her dad 'didn't really notice,' even after she asked him to smell her wrist and neck.

David's social media accounts are full of photos of his late wife, Susie, where he reminiscences on their time together.

'Susie, I keep watching for you to come through the door so that I know it’s all a bad dream. I still hide my tears when I say your name the pain in my heart is still the same, although I smile and seem carefree, there’s no one that misses you more than me,' he wrote on Instagram on March 23.

'There are times I feel I had died too and they just forgot to bury me. Whether it’s 2 years or 50 you’ll always be in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace, my Angel.'
