Horror as man falls down very deep well while looking for his phone in dark woods

A man plunged 50 feet inside a well in Georgia while looking for his cell phone.

The individual, who has not been named, was trapped for eight hours as rescuers battled to save him.

The father disappeared after venturing out into the woodland in Cobb County to try and retrieve his lost phone.

He managed to track the device to the remote location using his wife's phone but was last heard from at 10pm on Thursday. 

His frantic family raised the alarm at 4am on Friday and he was rescued around two and a half hours later USA Today reports.

A major rescue mission was launched with multiple teams scrambled to the scene.

Rescuers followed the sound of the trapped man's cries and located him inside the structure. 

'Cobb Police responded, saw his car in the road and started searching and calling his name,' Stephen Bennett, a spokesman for Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services said.

'One officer found the spouse's phone and then heard the subject and located him in the bottom' of the well.

'At night in the darkness, if you don't have a good flashlight it is very easy to accidentally find a hole, fall down a slope. 

'You know, the woods are not kind if you don't have a flashlight.'

He was then transferred to a stretcher and raced to the hospital. He is expected to make a recovery.
