A heroic Atlanta-area Chick-Fil-A delivery driver was filmed fighting off an armed robber who made a chilling threat after he smashed through the drive-thru window.

Security footage from the restaurant on Stone Mountain Highway in Gwinnett County shows the unidentified employee arguing with a masked armed robber who pointed a gun to his head.

The gunman then demanded the employee open a safe in the manager's office at around 4:30am on July 1, police announced Wednesday.

In a terrifying moment, the suspect allegedly warned the worker that if he didn't open the safe, he would die,  11 Alive reports.

The worker could then be seen pushing and wrestling with the assailant, forcing the suspect to lose his grip on his weapon - which falls to the floor as the employee manages to pull off the man's mask, sunglasses and dark-colored hat.

The suspect - who has since been identified as 51-year-old Tommie Lee Williams - tried to fight back, and was seen trying to punch and kick the delivery driver at various times during the fight.

But police said he fled the restaurant empty-handed before officers arrived on scene.

The driver told officers he was working that night when the suspect smashed the drive-thru window with a rock and climbed into the kitchen area.

He then made the chilling threat, prompting the employee to fight him off - as he told officers he did not know the combination.

Investigators were eventually able to identify the vehicle they believed the suspect used to arrive at the Chick-Fil-A, which led them to identify the suspect as Williams.

Police then issued warrants, charging Williams with armed robbery, aggravated assault, burglary in the second-degree, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and criminal damage to property in the second-degree.

Williams was finally arrested on Wednesday with the assistance of US Marshals and the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, 11 Alive reports.
