My husband and I went through a 'sleep divorce' because his snoring was so loud - now our sex life is hotter than ever

A 'cranky' mom who evicted her hubby from their bed eight years ago because of his disruptive snoring has admitted that it has saved their relationship while also boosting their sex life.

Alexis Scott, 41, underwent a 'sleep divorce' with her husband, Brian, just after the lovebirds got hitched in August 2015 - after she spent many restless nights struggling to fall asleep due to his loud snoring.

The Idaho-based mom confessed to being short-tempered with her spouse prior to kicking him out and sending him off to another room - adding that she even wanted to 'strangle him.'

And although the pair now doze off separately, Alex revealed that it had since improved their love life - noting that they now had 'more energy' to get tangled up in bed sheets.

And while Brian was initially snubbed by the removal, he was now even on board because he gets to snore, fart, and roll around without upsetting her.

Alexis was so angered by her spouse's sleeping habits that she even took to TikTok to rant about them.

'He snored like a freight train, it was awful. I was just mad at him, he was the reason I wasn't getting sleep. I felt bad for being mad at him because he can't really control it but at the same time it was his fault,' she said.

'I was lucky if I could somehow fall asleep before him but then I would still be woken up in the middle of the night at some point because his snoring was so loud. And if I couldn't fall asleep before him, good luck falling asleep at all.

'I was getting maybe four hours of broken sleep, it was like having an infant being woken up at various points throughout the night.

'When I don't get sleep I'm very emotional and short-tempered, I was very cranky all the time. It caused arguments between us, no-one was winning at that point.'

The mom-of-two said she initially moved into a separate room 'out of frustration,' before booting Brian out into the guest bedroom permanently.

Despite not sleeping in the same room, Alexis claimed it had improved their love life as it had given them 'more energy' to enjoy sex.

'People's concern is that you're not going to find time to be intimate with your spouse, we certainly find time for that,' Alexis said.

'We have more energy to be intimate. Who wants to do that with someone that they just want to smother with a pillow because they haven't slept at all?

'We can have intimate times and romantic times and cuddle and all those things. But that doesn't mean that I necessarily mean that I have to sleep next to you.

'There are times in the morning he'll get into bed and I'll drink my coffee and we talk, just as you would if you'd slept the night together. The only difference is not sleeping in the same room.'

Now, the spouses are happier than ever and credit their successful marriage to their 'sleep divorce.'

'At first it was out of frustration, I was so upset, I couldn't take it anymore. Then I realized, "Oh my goodness, this is actually a solution,"' she said.

'I think my husband was a little bit sad at first but now he's at the point where he doesn't want to sleep with me either.

'He is so relaxed [now] because he felt really bad so he wasn't sleeping well either with the concern of "Am I snoring? Am I waking her up? Is she sleeping?"

'He was having to deal with me not being my best self, so he was stressed if he was waking me up.

'Once I moved out we were both able to just sleep and not worry about the other person, we're both so much happier.'

She noted that the decision to sleep in separate bedrooms has helped them be happier every day.

'I'd say it's a big component in why we're still married. Try going through a decade with no sleep. Then add in children and life responsibilities,' she said.

'It gives us both the opportunity to be as rested as possible, with two well-rested adults comes better communication [and] just generally a happier disposition.

'I'm not resentful towards him, I can be a more loving wife. There's no going back.'

The separate sleeping arrangements continue even when they jet off on holiday, with Alexis noting that the extra cost is 'worth it.'

'When we go on vacation more times than not I will book an Airbnb with two bedrooms, even if it's just the two of us,' she said.

'Even if the cost is a little bit more, it's worth it to enjoy my holiday and be fresh for the day.

'On family vacation, I room with the kids. He gets his own room.'

After the success of the pair's sleep divorce, the mom now encourages other couples to follow suit and not to give into 'societal pressure.'

'If you can fix something, don't let societal pressure stop you from doing it,' Alexis said.

'As a woman and a mother I'm constantly sacrificing. Everything I do is based on making other people happy and I'm done with that.

'So if someone has been wanting that or thinking about it maybe that's the poke they need.'

Initially sad about the arrangement, Brian said he now fully supported it because it allowed him to do as he pleased without fear of upsetting Alexis.

'The sleep divorce is great. We both get the sleep we need and can be better partners when rested. Alexis is very grumpy when she is tired and so am I so this has been very good for us,' he said.

'It was a little strange at first to actually have separate bedrooms permanently, but I got used to it quickly. I can snore, fart, and roll around without waking her up or upsetting her.'
