Footage has captured the wild moment a Tennessee postal worker appeared to remove mail from his truck and brazenly toss it in a dumpster.

The shocking video, which was uploaded to TikTok on Saturday, appears to show a USPS employee taking bins of mail from his truck and then hurling it into the trash.

The concerned resident, who recorded the video from a window in her home, narrated the clip in shock: 'This mailman is dumping people's mail in the dumpster.'

With the footage gaining millions of views in just two days, a Nashville postal worker has since been placed in a non-duty status, and the local Office of Inspector General is investigating the incident.

In the video, the person who appears to be a USPS worker is seen retrieving bins full of mail and pouring them into the dumpster.

'He is dumping mail- federal mail- into the dumpster,' the shocked TikToker said, captioning her content: 'Federal crime happening right before my eyes.

Afterwards, he went back over to the dumpster and appeared to be rearranging the trash so that the mail would be better concealed.

'Oh my god,' the woman recording the video said in horror. 'People mail their checks and bills.'

She went on to explain how the postal worker originally had two bins in the front of the truck, each of which he had dumped out in the dumpster.

'Now he's emptying what's in the back,' she said.

At this point, the unknown employee could be seen leaning into the back of the mail truck. Then he remerged from the vehicle with another tray full of mail, moving back and fourth between the two with countless post items.

'Don't tell me this is legal. Please don't tell me this is what you do to get rid of mail,' the TikToker said

According to the U.S. postal code, a mail worker who deserts their mail 'shall be fined...or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.'

In 2020, a New Jersey postal employee similarly dumped mail from his route in different dumpsters, for which he was charged with delay of mail, among other things.
