Luana Alonso's previous comments about Team USA resurfaced amid a media storm surrounding her apparent removal from the Olympic Village in Paris.

Alonso arrived at the French capital to represent Paraguay in the games. However, her Olympic debut took a sour turn when she was reportedly taken out of the athlete's village, as Paraguay blamed her for creating an 'inappropriate atmosphere' with her behavior.

In the middle of the storm, Paraguayan paper 'Hoy' brought an old Instagram live video from the 20-year-old back to light, in which she revealed which nation she wanted to represent on the world stage. The confession, however, was made long before she qualified for the Olympics in Paris.

'I want to represent the United States more', Alonso said before adding 'They threaten me that they are going to publish a statement, that I am going to leave because of universality.

'If I support my sport it is thanks to my sponsors, they want to humiliate me and say 'It is not a big deal that you are leaving because of universality'.'

Alonso added that she preferred to return to college in Texas due to the tension she experienced about qualifying for the World Aquatics Championships.

'Instead of supporting and saying 'damn, we trust the athletes', not like 'You're going for the World Cup, we don't care', that's why it's not a pleasure to represent Paraguay and if it were up to me, I would go back to college,' Alonso shared.

While representing the South American nation, Alonso finished sixth in the first round of the 100m butterfly, narrowly missing out on reaching the semi-finals.

After her exit, she was seen walking around in her own choice of outfits rather than the official uniforms provided by Paraguayan team chiefs.

She also hung out with other athletes and took a selfie with tennis star Rafael Nadal. As a result, she was accused of distracting her teammates who were still competing in the Games.

Furthermore, she checked into a hotel in the French capital and visited luxury stores and restaurants, posting photos on social media.

In a statement on Instagram on Monday, Alonso said: 'I just wanted to clarify that I was never kicked out or expelled from anywhere, please stop spreading false information.

'I don't want to make any statement but I'm not going to let lies affect me either,' Alonso added alongside a photo of her enjoying a drink as the sunset.

The following day, she revealed that she was back in the United States, as she posted a video of her in a car with the American flag flying outside.

The Paraguayan lives Stateside and attends Southern Methodist University near Dallas, Texas.

In a report from AS Sport, Camilo Perez, president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, responded to the alleged claims from Alonso by saying: 'I read that she wants to compete for the United States.

'There is no universality there. She came here as a Paraguayan. She has to train a lot more to represent USA, her times have to be much better.'

Meanwhile, Alonso confirmed her retirement from swimming after her early exit from the competition.
