A young worker was humiliated after her boss sent a company-wide message that hinted at her personal health challenges.

Riya* has been working at a creative agency as a graphic designer for 10 months but her relationship with her superiors has always been fraught.

The 25-year-old from New Delhi told FEMAIL she was used to unreasonable demands from her bosses, but the 'rogue' message was one step too far.

'Tomorrow's meeting is compulsory for everybody please send me no messages on the side or in the morning. Don't care if it's raining or you have period cramps,' the founder said on the company group chat.

Riya suffers from severe health conditions that can occasionally impact her ability to work - something she was upfront with before she was hired.

'The period pain comment was about me,' Riya revealed.

'I have really bad cramps because of thyroid problems and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It's painful to the point where I tell my employers before signing a contract that it will be an issue once a month but my boss doesn't believe me.'

The cruel message isn't the first time her employers have used Riya's medical conditions against her.

'My other supervisor has also used me taking sick leave during my period to guilt me into doing more work and staying later the next day to make up for it.'

Riya's working hours are 10am to 6pm but gets asked to stay back and complete tasks until 8pm several times a week.

'6pm is not a hard stop,' her boss wrote to her. 'You [had a day] off yesterday so obviously there will be [extra] work load today.'

Riya said she couldn't stay past 6pm because she had a class at 6:30, but her boss told her to finish the work after her class and have it done before the next working day begun.

'She's always this rude. She refuses to pay overtime but expects you to start early and finish late,' the graphic designer said.

'My boss goes absolutely crazy if you're not available after work hours.'

But Riya revealed her boss often ignores her messages when it comes to talking about compensation.

'She stopped replying to my messages for over a week because I asked to be compensated for the work I was doing outside my role at the company - work she promised to pay me for,' she said.

'She only replied when I turned the work in and then took all the credit for it with the client, ignoring that I was ever involved.'
