The parents of Terrance Howard - the former Alabama football player who died earlier this month - have accused doctors of trying to kill their son in order to harvest his organs.

Howard was 19 when he was hit by a car in North Carolina in July. He was treated at Atrium Health for brain damage and placed on life support.

But Howard died on August 1 and now his family have made extraordinary allegations against the hospital, per the New York Post.

The former defensive back's father, Bishop Anthony Allen, claimed the hospital 'put something in Terrance’s IV to kill him.'

'He's been fine, he's stable and the moment we got ready to get him out of here and transfer him, they interfered,' he said in a video which has emerged on social media and also appears to show other family members trying to perform CPR.

'I'm telling you what they're doing - right now his mom is working on him... they're saying they are going to let him die. We asked them to come in and do something about it. They decided not to.'

He added: 'They decided to let him die because he was living and they didn't want to be exposed.'

Howard's mother, meanwhile, is reported to have said: 'They want his organs... that’s what they told me in the beginning.

Atrium responded to the allegations, saying in a statement to NewsOne: 'Federal privacy laws are very strict and do not permit us to address specific questions.

'What we can tell you unequivocally is that our medical professionals are among the best in the nation and take every reasonable measure to protect and preserve the life and health of those in our care at all times.'

The hospital added: 'We extend our deepest sympathies in every tragic situation facing patients and their family members as they struggle with their personal circumstances.

'We also make it our practice to provide honest assessments about each patient’s health when communicating with family members and help them understand and explore appropriate care options for their loved ones.'

Howard walked on to the Crimson Tide last season before opting to transfer to North Carolina Central University.

Former high school coach Rick LaFevers told KTRK Houston that Howard was driving to his new school's campus in a rain storm when he got into a car accident.

LaFevers says Howard got out of his car to check on the others involved when he was struck by a passing car.
