An Alaska Airlines jet was forced to make a wobbly landing at Portland airport following a terrifying mid-air emergency.

The Embraer E175LR was travelling from Seattle, Washington, to Redmond, Oregon, when pilots discovered a problem with the steering.

A heart-stopping video shows the jet's front wheel wobbling violently as it touched down on the runway on Monday.

Another clip shows the dialogue between pilots and air traffic control as they navigate the landing.

Shortly after touching down, officials at PDX Airport confirm with the pilots whether the plane has lost steering.

The pilots respond asking if fire trucks will be on standby.

Flight 2020 was operated by Alaskan Air-owned Horizon Air and was forced to re route after a problem with its hydraulic system, a spokesman told KOIN.

There were no injuries and all passengers on board made it to their intended destination within two hours.

'Yesterday, flight 2020 operated by Horizon Air flying from Seattle to Redmond, Ore. – diverted to Portland, Ore. due to an issue involving the hydraulic system that controls various systems on the aircraft, including control of the nose wheel steering,' a statement from the Alaska Airlines said.

'Our flight crew is trained for scenarios like this, declared an emergency for priority landing, and landed without incident.

'We swapped the aircraft and guests arrived to their destination about two hours later than scheduled.

'The aircraft is being inspected by our maintenance team. We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience.'

The incident is another headache for Alaska Airlines, which was at the center of huge controversy after a door plug blew out on one of its Boeing 737 Max planes mid flight.

The incident led to the suspension of production Boeing's 737 jets amid an FAA investigation.

The planes were previously grounded in the wake of two deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019 which killed a total of 346 people.

Last month, Boeing executives accepted a $243.6million plea deal that would see the company avoid a criminal trial over the crashes.

Under the agreement, Boeing will plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge stemming from the fatal crashes in Indonesia in October 2018 and in Ethiopia less than five months later,

Boeing must also pay the hefty fine, invest at least $455million in compliance and safety programs, and have an independent monitor oversee Boeing's safety and quality procedures for three years.
