A former caregiver stabbed a paralyzed man to death after crashing a minivan into his home, cops said.
The suspect, 47-year-old Aaron Matthew Shindle, was then killed by police, after an encounter less than half a mile away from the victim's Woodbridge home in California.
The incident happened Monday morning at about 2:15 am, the Irvine Police Department said, revealing how officers were forced to shoot Shindle after he attempted to accost them with the same knife used to killed John Alexander Bash.
Bash, 38, had been a former client of Shindle's, they went on to reveal - before stating it was the wheelchair-bound man's current caretaker who discovered his savaged body.
He went on to dial 911, after discovering his patient was bloody and unresponsive. When IPD arrived, the found an unoccupied Honda minivan crashed into his garage door, and Bash dead inside. A shootout minutes later saw Shindle killed, they said - after the suspect raised the still-bloodied weapon at them.

John Alexander Bash was stabbed to death by a former caregiver early Monday morning, after the suspect crashed his minivan into the paralyzed man's home, cops said
The incident happened Monday morning at about 2:15am, the Irvine Police Department said, after which 47-year-old suspect Aaron Matthew Shindle was left lodged into the slain man's Woodbridge residence
'As officers were canvassing the area for the minivan driver, an IPD officer encountered the registered owner at Stonecreek South and West Yale Loop,' cops wrote in a statement just hours after the slaying.
'During the exchange, the officer observed the male holding a knife,' the bulletin went on.
'The male raised the knife and advanced towards the officer when an officer-involved shooting occurred. A knife was recovered at the scene.'
Officers shared a photo of the blood-spattered weapon, before shedding more light on the situation.
'The male suspect appear[ed] to be the driver of the minivan that crashed into the home and is believed to have killed the victim,' they said.
Shindle did not die immediately, they added - detailing how he 'was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. They did confirm Shindle was the sole suspect, without offering much more detail.
'Preliminarily, the suspect is a former caregiver for the victim,' they further revealed, adding that the support worker was once a resident of Tampa, Florida.
'Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident,' the statement concluded. 'They do not believe there are any additional suspects.'

The same day, as cops continued to discern a motive, IPD officers said there was still little to go off of
'According to what we know, there was no beef,' one officer said. The IPD is not handling a separate probe involving the later shootout.
That will be left up to the Orange County District Attorney's office, due to the lethal force used to subdue the suspect
Prospective witnesses and those with knowledge of what may have led to the incident were urged to reach out to police.
Neighbors who did not see what happened but were privy to the police presence that followed spoke to CBS News Tuesday.
They revealed that Bash was in a wheelchair because of an accident he suffered several years ago where he dove headfirst into shallow waters in Lake Havasu, and remembered him as an uplifting presence in the neighborhood.
'He was always really nice to us and I'm just blown away,' said neighbor Marilyn Botzenhardt, a few dozen feet from where the crash and slaying had occurred.
'I can't believe that,' she said of the crime. 'Who would do that?'
The same day, as cops continued to discern a motive, IPD's Sgt. Karie Davies said there was still little to go off of.
'According to what we know, there was no beef,' she said, as officials said the IPD would not be handling a separate probe involving the shootout.
'According to the victim's family, this was out of the blue,' she said. 'This is something our detectives are going to have to figure out.'

Meanwhile, tributes for the deceased continue to pour in on social media, painting him as a thrill-seeking, resilient man who managed to stay positive after the loss of his legs in 2015.
'So very sad that this happened to Johnny,' wrote Irvine resident Jenée MacBeth on Tuesday.
'He was a nice guy. I hadn't talked to him since high school. It just breaks my heart that his family had to navigate his accident years back which left him paralyzed and now this horrible tragic, violent loss of him. He grew up here in Irvine.
'What a disgusting human to take the life of a kind, determined, defenseless individual,' she added. 'Thank you IPD for your quick response and handling business.'
'Johnny is such a sweet guy who has already been through so much,' another added. 'Just terrible.'
'He was a very big light in this dark world,' added Jenny Keifer Stidham, speaking to The Mercury News.

'He was just a genuinely good person.'
Meanwhile, the investigation involving the lethal forced used to subdue the suspect will be left up to the Orange County District Attorney's office, to avoid any conflict of interest.
That encounter saw the suspect raise the knife and charge toward officers, it is claimed - prompting them to open fire.
IPD's investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing.
