'America's worst mayor' Tiffany Henyard is hit with harsh punishment to stop her huge spending - as expert warn her town Dolton, Illinois is just weeks away from going broke

A woman dubbed 'America's worst mayor' has had the privilege of using her administration's credit cards revoked after an alleged spending frenzy.

Tiffany Henyard was banned on Monday from using Dolton village credit cards after the Illinois village board of trustees brought in measures against her. 

The trustees have said that they will only allow the Director of Administrative Services to use the village's credit card on 'board-approved purchases' only. 

Henyard has been clinging onto power despite criticism over her management of Dolton and her alleged lavish spending. She is also currently under investigation. 

Michael McGrath, an attorney representing the trustees, told WGN: 'This village has so many people with so many credit cards, they’re swiping like crazy and that’s why it had to come to a complete halt.'

He added: 'There’s thousands and thousands of dollars for Amazon purchases, for PayPal, for Target, for Walgreen’s, in the hundreds and thousands of dollars.'

According to McGrath, a recent snapshot of spending going back five-to-six months was recently brought to the attention by Henyard's top aid Keith Freeman. 

Freeman has already pleaded not guilty to a federal bankruptcy charge relating to his incoming being under reported. McGrath said he was now helping the trustees.

At the meeting on Monday night, Henyard sought to announce that Freeman had been terminated from his post. 

The board of trustees however had insisted that Freeman was still part of the administration, and remained as the village administrator. 

Henyard, who has her defense attorney Beau Brindley speak on her behalf, said that Freeman had put her safety in jeopardy by removing her security detail. 

As part of her fears over her own security, local police have now brought in metal detectors into the trustees' meeting room.

During public comment, one resident told the meeting: 'Watching as this village is being run into the ground by this woman is pissing me off.'

Another woman added: 'Watching as this village is being run into the ground by this woman is pissing me off.'

While another resident said: 'This village deserves so much more than it’s getting. From an outsider looking in, you’re being hoodwinked, bamboozled, and led astray.'

Henyard also had three women escorted from the Board Meeting by officers citing their behavior as 'out of order'. 

The high-rolling mayor, who earns $300,000 for her public duties, has spent thousands more on first class trips, a professional hair and makeup team and a security detail.

She has been accused of unlawfully signing off contracts as dozens of unpaid suppliers threaten to take the town to court by the FBI. 

Henyard has also been accused by a former employee of sexual harassment and retaliation.

The former employee claims the mayor fired her after she said she was sexually assaulted at a work trip in Las Vegas.  

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has also been hired by the village of Dolton to Henyard over the embezzling funds claims.
