Wedding guests left cringing over groom and mom's VERY awkward slow dance

Wedding guests were left covering their eyes in embarrassment after the groom and his mother slow danced to I Will Always Love You. 

One of the attendees was so stunned that they took to Reddit to vent about the cringeworthy moment. 

In the Wedding Shaming subreddit, the unnamed guest revealed that onlookers wanted to 'fade into the bushes' as the mom and son danced to the powerful ballad. 

They admitted that the mother of the groom was staring into her son's eyes throughout the entirety of the song. 

The guest added that it was 'one of the most awkward' moments of their life as people on the web flooded the comments section to echo the attendee's thoughts.

The post read: 'I was at a wedding and the mother of the groom requested I Will Always Love You as the song for the mother/son dance. 

'The couple felt too guilty to tell her no because the groom's parents had financially contributed to the wedding, so the couple agreed.' 

The guest admitted that the incident left them cringing as they explained how other attendees felt. 

'It was the worst, most awkward wedding moment I've ever witnessed,' they added.

'When the song came on, I didn't think it could get worse but it did. The mother of the groom ended up staring into the groom's eyes throughout the whole song either on the verge of crying or actually crying.

'I'm pretty sure all the guests wanted to fade into the bushes, Homer Simpson meme style.' 

People on the web flooded the comments section to share their own thoughts about the odd moment - with some of them even detailing their own horror in-law stories.

One person said: 'My mother-in-law wore a "I loved him first" shirt with his birthday to our wedding day. [It was] very awkward.'
