Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi is being heralded as the most high-profile Democrat to pressure Vice President Kamala Harris to choose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

Harris announced her VP pick Tuesday, choosing the 60-year-old Walz over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.

Pelosi - and other House Democrats - were pushing for Walz because he was one of their own, according to Politico

Walz served in the House of Representatives for 12 years before returning to Minnesota full-time to run for governor in 2018.

He came into Congress in 2006, in the same anti-President George W. Bush Democratic tidal wave that awarded Pelosi the speaker's gavel for the first time.

He voted for the Affordable Care Act alongside his Democratic counterparts and survived the 2010 midterms, which then President Barack Obama coined a 'shellacking.'

Walz represented a Republican-leaning Minnesota district during his time serving on Capitol Hill, but since he was announced as Harris' VP former President Donald Trump and his Republican allies have tried to characterize the governor as an uber-liberal.

'I would not pigeonhole Tim Walz,' former Rep. Filemón Vela, a Democrat from Texas, told Politico.

Vela was good friends with Walz when they served together in Congress.

'I always found Tim to be very independent ... The reason that Nancy has such a great deal of respect for him is because she knows that whenever there were situations that he did disagree with her, that he was also respectful about it.'

Colleagues recalled Walz's self-deprecating jokes, Minnesota-themed gifts and told Politico that he's missed on the massive group chat of current and former House members - which Walz had to leave as his communications as governor are public record.

She's largely credited with getting President Joe Biden to bow out of the race last month - paving the way for fellow Bay Area Democrat, Harris, to take over the top of the ticket.

And now Pelosi had a heavy hand in the Walz pick too.

Pelosi played coy when pressed about her role in Biden's exit by CBS Lesley Stahl.

'Well, I've never shared any conversations with a president of the United States publicly,' Pelosi said.

Stahl then interjected: 'It's said that he's furious with you, is he?'

'Well, he knows that I love him very much,' Pelosi said.

She tried denying that she was a leader in the pressure campaign pushing the 81-year-old president to leave the race after his disastrous debate performance in late June.

'Let me say things I didn't do,' Pelosi said. 'I didn't call one person. I did not call one person. I could always say to him I never called anybody.'
