A five-year-old autistic boy was found dead in a canal after he disappeared from his fifth birthday party in Idaho.
Matthew Glynn Merten, of Boise, who is nonverbal, was last seen at his home on Alamosa Street on Monday wearing Batman pajamas before he wandered away, according to the Boise Police Department.
A day later, police believe they have found his body in the canal approximately a half mile from his home with 'no signs of foul play,' they said in a Facebook post.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office will make an official identification and the police are still investigating the incident.
'We are heartbroken over this development today. The water was initially our biggest concern and a large focus of our efforts,' Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said in a statement.
