Simone Biles has made sure to inform 'pommel horse guy' Stephen Nedoroscik that he is social media's latest icon, as a meme of the US gymnast has gone viral since he twice won bronze at the Paris Olympics.

In an interview with Teen Vogue released on Wednesday, Nedoroscik, 25, revealed that Biles went up to him to show him the meme that she had come across.

'That's just so surreal because I don't think she really even know what my name was a month ago,' Nedoroscik said of his interaction with Biles, whom he called an 'icon' and 'the GOAT.'

Nedoroscik became an online sensation overnight after helping the US men's gymnastics team finish third place in the team final.

His efforts contributed to the Americans being medaled in the event for the first time since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Nedoroscick instantly became a viral meme when he was seen taking off his glasses and closing his eyes before his performance on the pommel horse last Saturday.

He won his second bronze in that event.

Nedoroscick, who posed with celebrity chef Guy Fieri after his exploits in Paris, was given a hero's welcome from fans when returning to the US on Tuesday, as he landed at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport in Florida, where he is based and trains.

The Worchester, Massachusetts, native has yet to come to terms with his newfound post-Olympics success.

'It's unbelievable,' Nedoroscik told Fox 13

'Just the amount of outreach I've gotten, the amount of people reaching out to me saying, like, you know, ''We want to watch men's gymnastics. You're helping grow the fan base [for] men's gymnastics.''

'And I honestly, that's what I really want to hear, is that this sport is growing in our, you know, country.

'It's not exactly the most popular one. And I'm glad that I can help assist in that.'
