Canadian water polo player Blaire McDowell was left bleeding after a collision in their classification match against Italy at the Olympics on Thursday.

Given the game's physical nature, McDowell was unfortunately on the receiving end of a clash that left a cut on her left eye.

Whether or not the cut will keep her from competing in Saturday's seventh-place game - with the opponent to be determined - remains a question.

Before getting bloodied in the pool, McDowell scored one of Canada's five goals in a 10-5 loss to the Italians.

Axelle Crevier, Emma Wright, Kindred Paul, and Elyse Lemay-Lavoie also scored goals for the Canucks.

Unfortunately, McDowell and her team's efforts came up short despite the Arizona State shedding blood during the game.

Valeria Palmieri, Silvia Avegno, Sofia Giustini, Domitilla Picozzi, Dafne Bettini, and Chiara Tabani each tallied a goal for Italy.

Meanwhile, Roberta Bianconi and Roberta Claudia Marletta tallied two each.

Canada awaits the winner between Greece and Hungary for the seventh-place game on Saturday.

On the other hand, Italy will compete in the classification match for 5th and sixth place.
