Former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles is retiring from the NFL after an 11-year career.

Foles shared the news on his social media on Thursday, spending last season out of football for the first time since he was drafted in 2012.

Foles played for six teams and is best known for leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl victory in 2018, spending the last several weeks as the team's starter, replacing an injured Carson Wentz.

'After much thought and prayer, I've decided to retire from the NFL,' Foles said on social media. 'It's been an incredible 11-year journey filled with unforgettable moments and amazing people.'

'From being drafted by the Eagles to winning the Super Bowl, every step has been a blessing. I'm excited to spend more time with my family and embrace the next chapter of my life. Thank you to all my teammates, coaches, team staff, and fans for your unwavering support. I am forever grateful,' Foles continued.

Foles NFL career began as a backup to Michael Vick, but eventually took over the Eagles' starting quarterback job in his first two seasons, before being the outright starter in 2014.

After a season each with the Rams and Chiefs, Foles returned to the Eagles as a backup before his most storied run and replacing Wentz.

Foles started the next season as the team's starter, but was replaced by a healthy Wentz in Week 3.

Having led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl, Foles wanted the chance to prove he could be the undisputed No 1 quarterback for another team, signing with the Jaguars.

That chance never truly came to be for Foles, spending one season with Jacksonville, two with Chicago and his final season in Indianapolis.

After being released by the Colts last May, he was not picked up by any team during the season with injuries at quarterback.
