Team USA Olympic rugby and social-media sensation Ilona Maher noticeably wears lipstick while competing in the physical, taxing sport.
While it's become posh to wear cologne or perfume while competing in sports, to not smell as bad with the profuse sweating, Maher's lipstick stands out as her necessary addition to the American's uniform.
The rugby star recent spoke on why she wears lipstick to tackle and score in rugby.
'I think it’s important for me because rugby has always been thought of as a very masculine sport, and [fans] stereotype the people who play it,' Maher told PEOPLE.
'Myself and all the girls playing sevens and fifteens, I think, are really breaking that stereotype,' Maher continued.

Maher spoke to how looking her best makes her compete at the highest level, another factor that differs from men's sports.
'We’re wearing makeup because we want to wear it and it makes us feel good, and I think we’re showing that it doesn’t take away from how we play on the field,' Maher continued.
'My lipstick doesn’t take away from how hard I hit, from how I read the game, from how I run. It’s just something that we do to kind of say, "F you" to those standards in what is thought of as a man’s sport,' Maher added.
Maher won a bronze medal with the United States' rugby sevens team, and has amassed a massive social media following of over 3million.
She's become one of the cult heroes of the Paris Olympics due to her outspoken nature.
On Wednesday, she posted a TikTok of herself drinking wine while eating copious amounts of cheese and bread.
And that's only endeared her to fans more.
'It’s important for me because I’ve gotten to a place where I’m pretty accepting of my body and I appreciate it, but I know a lot of girls aren’t in that place, and it works to see somebody who is.' Maher said.
'For me, it’s important to do a constant stream of it because they’ll see one video on BMI and feel really good, but then three videos down is something that makes them feel bad. I’ve done videos on cellulite, BMI, being called a man. It’s important to me that it’s never just one and done,' Maher continued.
