Dramatic new bodycam footage captured the moment a Butler, Pennsylvania police officer climbed onto the roof where Donald Trump's would-be assassin was setting up - and later revealed he warned agents about the spot.

Footage from the July 13 event showed the officer, who is not named, being boosted onto the rooftop after gunman Thomas Crooks was spotted by law enforcement.

The officer quickly jumped back down, and although Crooks is not seen in the footage, he claimed the shooter pointed his AR-15 at him.

He sprinted halfway towards where Trump was holding a rally, before running back to convene with other law enforcement as they prepared to breach the rooftop.

Amid mounting scrutiny over the Secret Service's handling of the situation, the officer was also heard claiming he had warned agents about the vulnerable rooftop beforehand.

'I f***ing told them they need to post a guy over here,' he said, in separate footage obtained by CNN. 'I told them that on Tuesday, told them to post guys over here.'

The footage, which is just over four minutes long, began with the officer being raised onto the roof where Crooks had stationed himself, around 150 yards from where Trump was speaking.

In a frenzied state, the officer sprinted from the rooftop. Although the footage is without sound at the start, he reportedly radioed to other law enforcement that Crooks was strapped with a 'long gun.'

The cop ran through a grassy area for around 20 seconds, before turning around and running back to the scene as other police converged.

As he fled, the timestamp on the video shows 6:11pm - the same time Trump was shot at.

He then crouched behind a car door and hastily assembled his own rifle, before shouting to other officers to inform them how close he came to the gunman.

'F***ing this close bro,' he said. 'And he turned around on me.'

As other officers raced to try and find Crooks, the officer gestured to the rooftop and said he was 'straight up.'

'Right where you picked me up bro, he was on that left side.'

Crooks was shot dead within a matter of seconds by Secret Service snipers on another nearby perch.

By the time the officer moved back to the building, heavily armed teams in camouflage had scrambled to the area.

The unnamed cop barked a description at them as they readied to breach the building, saying Crooks was 'laying down... he's got glasses, long hair.'

The footage ends with the officer briefly informing the teams what happened minutes prior, saying: 'I climbed the wall, and I poked my head right in front of him bro... he's got a book bag, he's got mad s***.'

Law enforcement then went back to the spot where the officer was boosted up, as a number of cops seemed intent on getting onto the rooftop

A large law enforcement presence then moved to the spot where the officer was boosted from originally.

The officer wearing the bodycam tells one other cop: 'You got me up once, you can get me up again.'

Once on the roof, several officers stood around Crooks' body, and a long string of blood can be seen streaming from Crooks' body.

After one officer recalled that he believed he was almost hit by one of Crooks' bullets, the cop wearing the bodycam again recounts the story of him poking his head up, branding himself an 'idiot.'

'Bro, before you f***ing came up here, I popped my head up like an idiot by myself dude,' he said. 'He turned around, I f***ing dropped.'

The officer then angrily recounted how he warned Secret Service over the vulnerable rooftop, which was left unguarded despite offering a clear shot at Trump from within AR-15 range.

'I f***ing told them they need to post a guy over here,' he said. 'I told them that on Tuesday, told them to post guys over here.'

Police seemed to be immediately questioning how the shooter slipped through, with the officer wearing the bodycam repeating that he 'thought they were going to post guys over here.'

'I talked to the Secret Service, and they said no problem we're going to post guys over here,' he adds.

The footage concludes with one of the camouflaged officers cracking a joke, saying: 'So much for a picture with Trump.'
