White Castle is the latest burger chain to enter the fast food price war - slashing the price of its famed sliders to the lowest amount in a decade.

The family run business, with 335 locations, is offering ten cheese sliders for $7.99 - more than 30 percent off the regular price.

Bosses point out that is less than 80¢ for each slider — a price not seen since 2011. The deal is $8.99 in New York and New Jersey.

Like most fast food restaurants, White Castle has seen sales fall this year - and is hoping the offer will lure back fast food fans.

'Families everywhere are tired of almost needing a small loan when they go out for fast food, and we know these days our customers want to make every penny count,' said Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle.

In response to Americans cutting back, White Castle has launched a series of promotions this year to draw in customers.

In May, it introduced a deal for 12 chicken rings at $3.99, which is set to run through August

White Castle launched the ten for $7.99 deal earlier this month in St. Louis as part of a campaign promoting its 99th anniversary in the St. Louis market. The offer was so popular that White Castle is expanding it to all of its restaurant markets.

The current offer of ten cheese sliders for $7.99 - or $8.99 in New York and New Jersey - is the steepest discount White Castle has offered since prices surged during and after the pandemic, the company said.

White Castle joins McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Starbucks, Popeyes and Taco Bell in rolling out a deal, which were all recently rated for value by experts

Chains are rolling out offers to lure back Americans who have cut back on eating out after two years of price rises.

McDonald's introduced a $5 meal deal earlier this summer and it includes either a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink.

Rival Burger King's $5 Your Way Meal is very similar to McDonald's. Customers get a choice of one of three sandwiches - a Whopper Jr, a Bacon Cheeseburger or Chicken Jr - plus four chicken nuggets, fries and a soft drink.

Wendy's has a $3 breakfast offer and also a four-item $5 meal similar to McDonald's and BK's.

Popular sandwich chain Jimmy John's is offering a $10 Total Package Meal, which includes an 8-inch sandwich, a fountain drink, chips and a cookie or brownie.

McDonald's $5 deal - including either a McChicken or McDouble, four-piece chicken nuggets, fries and a drink -will be extended in 93 percent of restaurants through the summer

Starbucks also made a surprise entry into the value war with a coffee and food breakfast combo from $5.

McDonald's and Burger King have been undercut by Krispy Krunchy Chicken, which is offering a meal deal for just $4

Casual dining chains such as Applebee's have also waded into the value meal market in an attempt to pinch customers from fast food rivals such as McDonald's.

The move to compete with fast food chains echoes that of Chilli's which also recently its new 'Big Smasher' - a bigger version of the Big Mac - that comes with fries and a drink for under $10.
