Appalling new allegations against parents 'who left diabetic daughter, 12, to die in bedroom' - as their shocking final act of 'neglect' is revealed

The parents of a 12-year-old diabetic girl have been accused of leaving her to die after they found her unconscious and failed to get her medical help for hours.

Ashley and Brent Bredhold, both 38, were arrested on Wednesday on neglect charges for the death of their daughter Alice Bredhold in Evansville, Indiana.

Alice was found dead on the floor of her bedroom on July 4 from complications related to her diabetes, according to the coroner's office.

Police say Alice died because her parents failed to take care of her diabetes, per 14 News.

The girl's liver was reportedly more than twice the size of an adult woman's and her blood sugar was between four to eight times the average for someone her age, per the Evansville Courier & Press.

Alice's mother Ashley told police her son found the girl unconscious when he went to wake her up. 

Ashley allegedly admitted that she did not check on Alice until two hours later. 

When she noticed Alice's extremely high blood-sugar level, she gave her her medicine but waited two more hours before calling 911, according to police.

Ashley reportedly told police that Alice's Dexcom G6 blood sugar sensor was 'dead' and had fallen off the girl's arm. However, police say they found two new sensor units still in their boxes on the family's home.

A nurse at the school once reported Alice had a blood-sugar level that was 'life threatening. The nurse noted Alice's parents should have known her sugar levels were high 'because her Dexcom monitor was beeping.'

'This is a chronic issue and Mr. and Mrs. Bredhold failed to correct this before she came to school,' the nurse noted. 

Alice's physician had previously noted their suspicion that Alice was 'not getting insulin routinely prescribed at home'

Alice's 16-year-old brother told police that just two weeks before her death he had to giver Alice an insulin shot after finding her 'moaning a lot' and 'in critical condition.'

Moreover, Alice's physician had previously noted their suspicion that Alice was 'not getting insulin routinely prescribed at home.'

The Bredhold's two other children have been removed from their home, which reportedly had trash and bugs all over it. 

They couple is being held at the the Vanderburgh County Jail with their bonds set to $100,000 cash.
