Plane passenger sparks outrage after revealing she was bullied on her flight for sitting in between a couple - despite offering to switch seats

A plane passenger has detailed the shocking incident that occurred when she sat in between a couple - adding that she spent the entirety of the flight being 'rudely' criticized.

The unnamed frequent flyer, 23, took to Reddit to share her frustrations with people on the web.

In a thread titled Entitled People, the passenger revealed that she had received a torrent of unwanted attitude when she sat in between a couple - despite having offered to switch seats.

She explained that she was supposed to be traveling on a different flight - for which she had paid for an assigned seat directly with the airline - but was switched last minute due to a medical emergency.

And while having no control where she sat on the new flight, the couple either side of her made it clear they had issue with the last minute passenger arrivals.

The post was titled: 'I ruined this woman's plane ride apparently.'

She wrote: 'I'm a 23-year-old female, I don't know the ages of the couple but they seemed to be in their late 20s or early 30s.

'This was a flight about five hours long. I always pay extra and pick my seat in advance. However, due to a medical emergency on a flight from earlier in the day, I was placed on standby because the people who got displaced from that flight were placed on our flight since it was the next one headed to the same location.

'Fortunately, towards the end of boarding, my named ended up being called. I got lucky and was able to get on this flight (I think they switched to a bigger plane), instead of having to wait for the next flight.'

She noted that on the new flight, her new seat ended up being in the middle of two others.

When she arrived to her row, she saw a man and woman were chatting and sharing snacks so she asked if they would rather sit by each other instead of having her sit in the middle - but they declined.

She said: 'The woman immediately reacted rudely to this. She said something like, "You're not supposed to be sitting here anyway."

'I explained the situation (I'm pretty sure everyone on the plane was aware of this though, as there had been announcements and rearranging happening). I offered to show her my new ticket too (it said my seat number on it).

'She flicked her hand at my ticket and made a disgusted sound. I offered again, if they want to sit together... to which she didn't reply. Her partner said "it's okay" and seemed kinder between the two.

'I sat down. He made some small talk about how the plane must be so full.'

And while the woman's partner was attempting to be more sympathetic toward the new seat neighbor, she wouldn't let up.

The 23-year-old added: 'The woman didn't wait long and eventually interrupted us.  She asked me, "Did you use one of those third party websites to book your flight? It's so frustrating when people cheap out to inconvenience others."

'I told her I booked direct, and the only reason I got placed on standby (along with many other people) was due to the medical emergency that happened on another flight. None of us got to choose our seats. She asked me if I paid for seat selection. I told her I did.'

Following that encounter, she explained: 'I was so done with her attitude, I put my headphones on and attempted to do my own thing.

'For the remaining four hours, [the woman] kept reaching over me and tapping her partner and trying to talk to him in a way that was super intrusive to me being stuck between them.

'I could tell even her partner was trying to engage her less so that she would hopefully stop, but she didn't. And the whole time she acted as if I was the problem in this scenario.

'The unforeseen part of this aside, I think they tried to pull that tactic where they don't sit together on purpose, leaving the middle seat empty, hoping no one will sit between them. But on full flights (which most are) it doesn't work. And even so - it's not the other persons fault.'

People on the web flocked to the comments section to dish out their frustrations towards the anonymous couple.

One person said: 'Sounds exactly like the middle seat thing. I really don't understand why they preferred to inconvenience themselves (and you) and didn't just swap with you. Weird hill to die on.'

Someone else added: 'Every time she put her hand in front of my face to get his attention, I would wait a few and then do it right back to adjust the window shade.'

'Wow! You are my hero for keeping it classy - I'm afraid I would not have been as kind as you,' commented someone else.

'You did nothing wrong at all. I am very sorry you were subjected to such an awful cow,' added another person.

In the past, many passengers have also questioned whether you should switch seats while traveling if someone asks you to.

A couple of months ago, a frequent flier issued a PSA to fellow travelers about seat swapping after he found himself in a nightmare experience that saw him forced to move five times when he begrudgingly gave up his initial spot.

The unknown man took to Reddit to recount his seat swap story that 'permanently changed [his] mind on ever being nice and trading seats with someone.'

Another frequent flier previously revealed she refused to switch her window seat with an 'entitled' passenger who wanted to sit next to his wife.

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to share how she declined to move to a middle seat during an 11-hour flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt, so the man sitting next to her could sit beside his wife.

She shared her story on the social media platform as a way to rant about the man on the Entitled People subreddit, prompting others on the web to slam the man for asking someone else to switch to a lower-quality seat so he could be happy.
