Kevin Durant went as far as calling fans 'clowns' in a fiery X (Twitter) tirade on Friday morning.
The Phoenix Suns star forward's online eruption came after Team USA narrowly escaped Serbia, 95-91, in a thrilling semifinal showdown at the Paris Olympics.
After celebrating a hard-fought win to punch their ticket to the gold medal game on Saturday, Team USA was criticized by X user Josh Barnett.
'Learnt a lot about US sports culture today. A lot of flexing for only just beating a nation of 6.6m in a sport they invented,' the user wrote.
'Acting like Jokic fans are committing treason. We here would never do this to a small Pacifica nation in rugby league. We embrace the competition.'
Team USA star Kevin Durant called fans 'clowns' in a bizarre and heated 5am Twitter tirade
Unhappy with the criticism, Durant shared the post with his response.
'Lets talk about the fan culture that’s been created recently,' Durant wrote. 'A lot of huge egos who believe they are the reason for the advancement of a sport.
'ALOT of idol worship, a lot of hate and division based off wins and losses, a lot of disrespect of the work being put in by these incredible athletes, mostly by people who don’t know what it takes to be good at anything besides talking…go do something and get out the way.'
Users did not lay off on the two-time NBA champion as another responded, writing: 'This exact thing hes talking about has existed since the inception of the NBA.
'You think people weren't worshipping MJ or Bird and being divisive then? I hate to be that guy but it only seems like its a problem now guys like Giannis and Jokic are getting the same treatment.'

'That’s what yall do, yall clowns,' he wrote. 'Use players to push these corny agendas yall got. This a brotherhood fam, u not apart of. It’s a problem now cuz social media got u clowns walkin around wit your chest out like u mean something. YOU DONT!!! YOUR TAKES DONT MATTER.'
Before his angry series of tweets, Durant expressed his patriotism and pride in wearing the red, white, and blue on the world stage.
