The co-founder of Whole Foods has launched a health and wellness club that costs a cool $50,000 a year to join - and he admits only health-obsessed Los Angeles would buy into it.
John Mackey, 70, opened Love.Life - a combination doctor's office, gym, and wellness center - that will allow the richest of society to 'Nourish, Heal, Thrive,' as the motto above the door reads.
'If this idea won't work in LA, it won't work period,' he told The Los Angeles Times. 'People here are more into their health, they're more into looking good, feeling good, they're into longevity.'
The cheapest memberships - High Performance, Heal, or Longevity - cost $750 a month, or $9,000 a year, while 'Concierge' level comes in at a whopping $50,000.
Partial memberships, like a $300 fitness and recovery option and a $500 medical-only membership, are also available.
Those wanting only a peek inside the space can purchase a day pass - for a paltry $100.

For $9,000 a year, members are entitled to five visits with a Love.Life primary care doctor, health coaching, medical testing, and fitness and recovery sessions. They'll also have access to practitioners who work across 20 disciplines, including yoga, nutrition, and Chinese medicine.
The Concierge level offers unlimited doctor's appointments and access to more detailed medical tests.
Visitors undergo a series of tests when signing up so that specialists can get a full view of their health and be able to offer a more personalized experience.
Customers will also have their blood drawn for a lab panel that tests more than 120 biomarkers, as well as, have their musculoskeletal layer accessed or a body composition and bone mineral density scan, according to The Times.
Other tests available address microbiome, hormones, cardiac, and food sensitivities.

Everything will be included into a personal fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle plan stored on an app that also tracks members' progress.
'We're trying to help individuals become the healthiest, best versions of themselves - physically, emotionally and spiritually,' Mackey said.
'When do most people go to a doctor? When they get sick. Our idea is: We want you to start seeing a doctor [now] so that you don't ever have to see a doctor for the chronic diseases that kill.'
Although the the club does not accept insurance, members can get reimbursed through their insurance for some tests.
However, for Mackey, this is just a 'continuation of my own higher purpose in life.'
Mackey has been tinkering with the idea for four decades - about as long as Whole Foods has been in existence.
He called the club a 'continuation of my own higher purpose in life.'

Mackey and his co-founders sold the grocery chain to Amazon in 2017 for $13.7 billion and the vegan left the company in 2022.
By then, he had already been working on getting the club up and running for a year, with the intention to 'change the way people think about health and wellness.'
Mackey, alongside co-founders Walter Robb and Betsy Foster, imagined it being a state-of-the-art gym, high-end spa, and holistic health center.
He hopes he'll be able to expand to other cities and eventually internationally.
