The men's keirin event at Paris 2024 was temporarily suspended on Saturday following a horror crash that saw Kwesi Browne fly off his bike.

It occurred on the final lap when multiple athletes were all pushing hard for a victory while cycling close together.

Concern for the 30-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago was high as he lay on the track following the incident.

He eventually left the Velodrome National on a stretcher as fans showed their support with applause.

There was then relief around the arena when Browne was able to remove his gloves and direct a thumbs up gesture towards the crowd while he was being carried away by medical staff.

This was not the only crash witnessed by cycling fans at Paris 2024 on Saturday.

Around 30 minutes earlier, in the men's madison, Team GB's Ollie Wood was catapulted into a hard fall after his helmet was struck from behind by that of Jan Willem van Schip.

It was inconclusive from television replays whether the contact was deliberate, though it looked ugly inside the velodrome, with the collision leaving Woods sprawled across the boards.

He required a concussion assessment at trackside before continuing the 50km race and ultimately finishing 10th alongside Mark Stewart.

That incident came 24 hours after Team GB's Jack Carlin was accused by the Dutch of 'rugby on wheels' for a manoeuvre in which he veered up the track and into Dutchman Hoogland in the individual sprint. Fans from the Netherlands then booed Carlin when he later collected his bronze medal.
