A young woman who was turned away from an American Airlines flight shared the unexpected reason her name ended up on the airline's no-fly list.

Erin Wright, 24, claimed in a viral TikTok that after trying to check in for the American Airlines flight to New Orleans in June, she was informed the airline had banned her.

She said she had to cough up $1,400 for a different flight and was stunned weeks later when American Airlines finally told her why she was blacklisted.

Wright claimed the airline informed her she was banned for 'having sexual relations with a man on a flight while intoxicated,' which came as a great surprise.

'I am a 24-year-old lesbian. You see me. Am I having sexual relations with any man? No,' Wright said in the clip.

Wright said she was unable to check in for the flight to her sister's bachelorette party using her phone, so she went to the airport and attempted to check in there.

She explained that after going back and forth with gate agent, the employee finally told her that she was banned from the airline but would not specify why.

'I was like, "what?" because I've never done anything. What did I get banned for, can you tell me?' Wright said.

'[The gate agent] was like, "I'm really sorry, it's an issue of internal security. I can't tell you but the person on the phone told me that you should know why.'

Flabbergasted, Wright said she called customer service, which also refused to say exactly why she had been banned.

She said she was directed to an email address for customer relations in her quest for answers.

Wright claimed she no choice but to spend an extra $1,000 for a flight on a different airline and was not initially refunded for the $400 she had already spent on the American Airlines ticket.

'I'm really frustrated and have to spend another eight hours in the airport waiting for my other flight,' she said.

Wright said she had to jump through many hoops to finally get an answer as to why she wasn't allowed to fly, but eventually got an explanation.

'I finally get an email from corporate security saying that I have been banned because I was having sexual relations with a man on a flight while intoxicated,' Wright said.

'It took 12 days and many emails from me between when I contacted customer relations to when I actually got an email back.'

She remained on the no-fly list and had to file an official appeal.

'I email them a very serious email, but also somewhat funny, because in it I am like "I don't really know how to prove it wasn't me except for the fact that I am literally a lesbian," ' Wright said.

'I can like get you letters from other people telling you that that's the truth.'

Three months later, Wright said her mother reached out to American Airlines legal department and they finally took her off the list and refunded her $400 for the original flight.
