An Atlanta-area high school football player had his leg amputated after rescuing his mother from her overturned vehicle.
De'Lon Jackson, a 15-year-old who had dreamed of playing in the NFL, is recovering in Georgia weeks after the traffic accident that cost him his leg.
The at Charles Drew High School student was finishing practice when received a call from his mother, Raven Simone, who has no apparent relation to actress, Raven-Symoné.
'She told me she was coming and that she was about to turn into my school,' Jackson told 11alive.com.
It was then that Simone crashed her car, which ended up in some nearby grass.

Jackson successfully saved his mother from the car, but was then struck by another vehicle
'I didn't hear the accident, but I heard my mom saying, ''I can't breathe, I can't move,'' Jackson said.
Jackson ran to the scene immediately.
'I'm running…I see what happened. I see the truck that's in the grass,' Jackson continued. 'My first thought was getting my mom out of the car.'
Jackson succeeded in saving his mother from the wreck, but he wasn't out of danger.
It was then that another car collided into the teenager, resulting in severe damage to his leg.
'I was walking around the back, and you hear a car coming, and as they're coming, you can hear my car getting smacked,' Simone said. 'And I turn around and say, ''Where's my son?'' And I see him way up in the middle of the street, and his right leg is twisted.'
As Jackson explained, his leg was 'very swollen' and there was 'damaged tissue.'
Since then his right leg has been amputated and he has remained bedridden because his left leg was also injured in the crash.
A fundraiser has been launched to help Jackson. As of Tuesday afternoon, $12,000 of the $100,000 goal had been reached.
'Just right now, taking care of him and my other two children,' Simone said about her current focus. 'He's going to be here another week and a half, and when he leaves here, he's going to have to go to CHOA for rehabilitation.'
Although Jackson's NFL dreams appear to be dashed, he remains thankful that the situation isn't any worse.
'I love her to death,' he said of his mother. 'I don't know what I'd do without her. I don't know what I'd do. I'm glad she's here. I'm glad I'm here.'
