A woman has been living with what she claims to be a severe allergy to orgasms - but she's never been formally diagnosed because doctors don't believe her.

Kate shocked Aussie radio duo Will & Woody about the little-known condition she's been experiencing between the sheets.

During a segment about the 'condition you have that no one believes', she explained how she would go into anaphylactic shock 'every time' she had an orgasm.

'I can't breathe, my eyes swell up, I can't see and I have to call Triple-0. I have an EpiPen... it's a whole thing,' Kate told the KIISSFM stars.

She first noticed something wasn't right during a one night stand.

'This is how I found out and it was so embarrassing,' she said.

'I actually thought I had a reaction to his cologne or something like that. It was actually my first time of it happening and it was just so embarrassing.'

Initially, Kate said she didn't know what was wrong with her - but she made the 'link later down the track' whenever she experienced an orgasm.

'I went to the doctors... I ended up going to an allergy person but I never got a formal diagnosis,' she explained.

'They were asking me if I was allergic to latex and all these ridiculous things.'

Kate said she has been able to keep her allergy under control behind closed doors.

She must keep an EpiPen nearby in case she risks a life-threatening reaction.

'If I go on holidays or anything like that, the EpiPen is packed. In my house, I know where it is because I just honestly can't hold back all the time,' she said.

'It was very awkward at the very start but my partner fully understands and he's very supportive.'

Many listeners were stunned by the woman's secret condition, with one joking: 'There's no way in hell she's going to be able to fake it.'

While others confessed: 'This is my worst nightmare.'

According to the National Institutes of Health, there's reports of people suffering from postorgasmic illness syndrome (POIS), an extremely rare condition where a person develops flu-like and allergy symptoms after orgasm.

Common symptoms include fatigue, weakness, headache, fever, mood changes, memory or concentration problems, stuffy nose, sore throat and itching eyes.
