Colin Kaepernick is 'delusional' if he thinks he'll get a QB role in the NFL, insider claims: 'That ship has sailed'

Colin Kaepernick will never play in the NFL again - despite the quarterback's hopes of ending his eight-year exile from the league.

That's according to an NFL insider, who told DailyMail.com that the 36-year-old is 'delusional' if he thinks he will be offered a spot on a team ever again. 'That ship has sailed,' they said.

Kaepernick reiterated recently that he wants to be under center once more, despite not playing in the NFL since 2016, when his protest during the national anthem sparked huge controversy.

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has offered him a route back to the league, revealing that he wants Kaepernick on his staff.

But DailyMail.com has been told that the 36-year-old is unlikely to take up the offer because he still believes he can contribute to a winning team - and because he fears failing as a coach would kill off his hopes of another opportunity.

'The likelihood of him accepting the position isn't very likely. He is delusional in thinking that he will eventually be offered a job as a QB again in the league. That chance has forever passed him, no matter what he thinks,' the insider said.

'He isn't going to play in the NFL ever again, there is no scenario where a team will give him a chance to play again, that ship has sailed.'

The source added: 'He is apprehensive to start coaching because of two main reasons: one is if he is bad, then that will be the nail in the coffin on working in the NFL ever again.

'Second, he really thinks he can play for a team and contribute to a championship team.

'He is 36, and there are to many new players and younger players that wouldn't provide the same headaches PR wise that a returning Colin would ultimately provide.'
