USWNT fans split over Korbin Albert hype post as fall-out from her anti-LGBTQ posts continues

A hype post about United States women's national team midfielder Korbin Albert has generated split reaction due to past posts that have been deemed homophobic and transphobic.

The post from the USWNT's official account, seemingly unprompted by anything Albert did on the pitch on Saturday, showed the midfielder on the ball and biting her gold medal.

Albert's past posts have divided the fanbase - with plenty of people unwilling to accept the midfielder due to her past conduct.

The (now-deleted) posts that Albert shared were re-posts of a Christian worship space discussing how being gay and 'feeling transgender' is wrong.

Albert, seen as a rising star within the women's national team, has posted some similar content on her profile before - including a now-deleted post on her TikTok account from Fourth of July weekend showing her family and saying 'their pronouns are U.S.A.'

She also previously 'liked' a post on Instagram that was revealed via a screencap of a meme that read 'God taking time off performing miracles to make sure Megan Rapinoe sprains her ankle in her final ever game'.

Rapinoe tore her Achilles tendon in the 2023 NWSL Championship game in just the third minute and watched as her team, OL Reign, lost to Gotham FC on penalty kicks.

USWNT coach Emma Hayes has previously defended selection of Albert to the Olympic team publicly and Albert has apologized for her posts, admitting that they were 'sensitive and hurtful'.

But fans have demanded to see change out of Albert that has not yet been fully publicly disclosed.

It's for that reason that many are still against her after the apology and has led to many of the replies seen on Saturday afternoon.

'I can't even begin to support her until she shows her work as far as unlearning the bigoted views she has goes,' wrote one user on Twitter.

'She has shown absolutely no work,' a second user posted. 'Every second that goes by without her actually addressing the harm raises further questions about the moral center of this team. Every second compounds the insult and injury. And that’s before we get to “scratch a transphobe a racist bleeds”'

'Congrats on normalizing hatred and bigotry,' another posted in reply. 'Remember when she also celebrated and mocked a severe injury to one of this teams most legendary players?? Yeeeeah. Get this trash off the USWNT. It's an embarrassment.'

'Y’all can try all y’all want. We don’t like her, she’s a bigot. And every time she pops up, shit is annoying She ain’t even that good,' yet another person posted.

'Look at the USWNT promoting a player that thinks gay people should go through conversion therapy and finds it funny her colleagues get hurt,' said another.

But there were some posts (granted, many fewer) in support of Albert as well from this tweet.

'The replies and quotes are gross. Give ppl the same grace to learn and grow like the rest of us who aren’t under a microscope,' wrote one person.

Another said, 'haters gonna hate, but she did provide the game winning assist so'.

Other posts called Albert the goat or a 'future [goat emoji]' as well.

Albert performed well at the Olympics - scoring a goal against Australia and her long ball to Mallory Swanson led to the gold-medal clinching goal against Brazil.
