Meghan Markle's former classmate shared a throwback snap from her days at Northwestern University.

The Duke, 39, and Duchess, 43, of Sussex were welcomed by Colombia's vice-president Francia Marquez and her husband Rafael Yerney Pinillo after arriving in the country on Thursday for the start of a four-day tour.

But as the royal couple prepare to spend their final day of their trip in the home of salsa dancing in Cali, it has been revealed Meghan took salsa dancing classes in university.

A former classmate of the duchess, Iris Amador, took to Instagram to share the nostalgic from the dance class.

She captioned the nostalgic snap: 'The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Colombia, including Cali, the world's salsa capital—a dance Meghan Markle and I enjoyed together during our university days. Salsa lessons with the future Duchess of Sussex back in college!'

In the snap, Meghan looked typically stylish in denim jeans which she paired with a black jumper.

Her brunette locks were swept back into a chic bun and the future duchess perched on the side of a couch with her classmates.

Dancing has become a distinctive characteristic of Cali, with millions of people traveling to there to learn to dance Cali salsa every year, according to Colombia travel.

Many rushed to the comments to praise the duchess's versatility of skills and to thank her classmate for sharing the sweet memory.

One person wrote: 'It's so cute that a former student from the same year at Northwestern as Meghan can share this incredible memory. We know Meghan is good at salsa dancing. It reassures me that she has an incredible sense of rhythm and impressive ease in moving her hips. I would love to see her evolve further on Colombian music.'

Another said: 'So many amazing details coming out about Meghan and all good. She truly was a very private person.'

They continued: 'So happy her tribe of friends and acquaintances respect her privacy and only come out occasionally to show what a dynamic person she is. This was a glorious, triumphant trip for the Sussexes. Hope they get an invite to the Caribbean soon.'

Meanwhile another wrote: 'So nice of her to share this! Maybe they will meet up one day and catch up!'

It appears that Meghan was able to put her dancing skills to the test during her trip to Colombia.

Meghan was filmed enthusiastically dancing while attending a special cultural event yesterday.

Prince Harry and Meghan were treated to theatre, music and dance performances at the Delia Zapata National Centre for the Arts in Bogota on the first day in South America.

During the theatre performance a clip showing Meghan taking part in a dance session with locals went viral.

And it appears Harry got swept away in the vibrant atmosphere also as he bounced back and forth from the sidelines as he watched his wife show off her impressive dance moves.

The prince appeared in great spirits as he clapped his hands and beamed as Meghan joined the dancers in the centre of the room.

The royal couple were treated to a colourful theatrical performance of the play 'The Kiss of the Hummingbird'.

Harry looked on as the outfits, which included multicoloured feathered headdresses adorned with exotic birds, were explained to him.

At the end of the performance Harry and Meghan shook hands with the dancers with the Duke telling one: 'These costumes are amazing.'

Harry is known for getting involved on royal tours as he was spotted dancing enthusiastically in Jamaica in 2012.

The then 27-year-old royal proved that he had remarkably good rhythm as he gyrated to a rendition of reggae legend Bob Marley's One Love.

Meanwhile he was filmed trying to master the traditional dance in Lesotho in 2013.

Meanwhile Harry couldn't resist busting out a little shimmy as he met with children during the second day of his trip to Colombia.

Once more, dancing was on the agenda, with Prince Harry being filmed breaking into a shimmy during the visit.

As with their other engagements, Meghan and Harry were accompanied by security detail carrying a bulletproof briefcase to protect the couple from potential shooters - at each event they have attended, the security man has been seen jumping out of a vehicle ahead of the couple holding the folding shield.

And he could also be seen on Friday morning, however, his presence did not seem to phase the Prince, who broke into a shimmy during the engagement.

Video footage from the event shows the father-of-two busting out his best dad dancing moves, as he bends his knees, and waggles his hips while rolling his shoulders and arms.

Meanwhile today, during their trip to La Giralda School, Harry and Meghan took part in an art session and planted trees.

They also visited the school's 'social and emotional gym' which teaches students mental and physical exercises to balance their mental health and personal wellbeing.

Students demonstrated for the couple their personal meditation techniques, and presented them with gifts and handwritten letters.

Harry and Meghan posed for photos alongside the youngsters as they wore traditional dress.

The school is in the Bogota district of Santa Fe which is seen as a particularly dangerous and violent suburb.

Described as Bogota's red-light district, it is reportedly known for its deadly mix of prostitution, drugs and violence and is best avoided at night, according to locals.

It featured on Apple TV series No Go Zones - The World's Toughest Places - and was described as an area of 'Colombian gangsters and pimps in charge and all manner of homeless people and addicts find their way to the wasteland of Bogota.'

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were escorted to a school amid tight security with at least 16 armoured police vehicles, as well as armed officers and soldiers, seen on patrol before their arrival.

The visit to the school, which is overlooked by rundown apartment blocks and several rundown favelas which cling to the nearby hillsides, comes despite Harry's raising concerns over his security arrangements when visiting the UK.
