Today host Hoda Kotb reveals her dating do's and don'ts after admitting she has NO doubt that she'll find her dream partner soon

Today host Hoda Kotb has opened up about her ideal first date and the conversations that she enjoys having with someone when she meets a potential romantic partner.

The TV star, who recently revealed why she split up with her fiancé Joel Schiffman, admitted that knowing what to talk about on a first date could be 'awkward,' but she also found it fun 'getting to know somebody.'

During Monday's episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, the mother-of-two was discussing first date topics of conversation with her cohost, Jenna Bush Hager, and said: 'Those can be awkward. You have to know how to get the conversation vibing, I want real conversation.'

Hoda, who recently celebrated her 60th birthday, continued: 'A first date question should be to find out if there's a commonality, right? Isn't that what you want to know?' as the two women discussed a Cosmopolitan UK article which suggested what questions to ask on a first date.

Some of the questions included: 'What's something you want to learn?' and: 'If you could have a superpower, what would it be?' but Jenna and Hoda laughed them off as the latter admitted: 'I don't want to know your superpower!'

Jenna then recalled the first time she went out with her husband, Henry, and explained: 'I think it's interesting to lean into what like what shaped you. First of all, I remember the conversation that Henry and I had.

'We met 20 years ago in September, and we went on a date to a restaurant called Teatro Goldoni, I'm sure it's still not there, but there were masks on the wall, and he picked me up and I was so nervous, and he was so nervous, his ears were red!

'I remember that and I remember what we talked about, which was his dad - who's now passed - and how much he influenced him. And like, decisions he'd made... I mean he was young, but so far, to like not get a job right after and help his dad out....'

'I remember that conversation and I'm afraid if you talked about superpowers, that's forgettable!' Jenna laughed as Hoda agreed.

The broadcaster, who was married to a tennis coach named Burzis Kanga from 2005 until 2008, then said: 'And I do think when you do ask someone about their history, and I don't mean their dating history because that gets all messy, but just their life history because that does tell you who they are.'

Hoda continued: 'I think first dates can be lots of fun, just because it's like... I love the beginning. It's like, not everything is out there yet and I think it's just fun to get to know somebody. But I think it's also important when you are dating - and we talked about this - but figure out what you want and how much room you have and that's important.

'And don't treat every date like, "Is this going to be my person?" No, you're just enjoying, you're just delighting in a date, that's it! It doesn't have to be about, what is this going to mean down... no, it's like, I don't have to worry about anything because, you know what, we're just having a coffee.

'I don't have to worry about is it going to get intimate, what is it like, I don't know. No, no, that's not happening! And if you take all the pressure off yourself [and say] "This isn't my is he right? This is just delightful, a delightful dinner."'

Hoda split from her fiancé, Joel Schiffman, in January 2022 but the pair remain friends and co-parent their two daughters

During a recent appearance on The Jamie Kern Lina Show, Hoda said she was confident that she will meet her dream man soon

Hoda's comments come just days after she admitted she was more than confident that she'll find her special person some time soon.

During a recent appearance on The Jamie Kern Lina Show, Hoda said: 'When I close my eyes and I envision the romantic part of my life, I can see it very clearly.

'Because for the first time in my life I am me. Someone is meeting me. Not the version that you might want, or not the version that I'll twist a little bit to fit your needs or what is appealing to you,' she continued.

'This is who I am, and I feel like once you get there your heart rests. You're like, "Oh, this is what it feels like." So when I close my eyes and see it, I see it.'

Hoda stressed that she had no idea what her match looked like physically, nor did she particularly care.

'I don't see his face. It's not like I'm like, "I want XYZ." I don't even care about XYZ, tall, short, bald, not bald. I don't care. But I know the essence and I can sense the soul of that person.'

She added, 'I know the way that my life is, that is coming. So many things have taken so much time to show up in my life and I don't mind it one bit.'
