Donald Trump says he'll continue his attacks on Kamala Harris' intelligence because he thinks she'll destroy America if elected.

Trump has caused outrage for his jabs at the Democrat's racial identity, appearance and intelligence in the month since the vice president replaced Joe Biden on the ticket.

In an interview ahead of the first night of the Democrat National Convention Monday, Trump says that he hopes those attacks aren't 'necessary' but says he's trying to save the country.

He said: 'I've always spoken my mind, I don't think she's very good at this, I think she'll destroy our country'.

Trump elaborated on what he based his criticism that he believe Harris isn't intelligent.

'I looked at the things that she said, I looked at the way she deals I looked at her crazy record, I looked at ther policies, I just don't happen to think so. I could say she is and that would be very nice,' he told CBS News.

In contrast, Trump believes that he is the man to bring intelligence to the White House and protect the American economy.

'I don't think she's a very bright person. I think I am a very bright person and a lot of people say that. I don't think she's a very bright person and you know what? Our country needs a very smart person but I don't consider that an insult, that's just a fact'.

The former president has previously attacked Harris' intelligence, saying at rallies: 'She happens to be a very low IQ individual.

'We don't need another low IQ individual.

'She is terrible, she's worse than (Biden). I don't feel sorry for him. He's a bad guy.'

Trump has gotten increasingly personal with his attacks on the vice president since she replaced Biden in late July.

He said the Demoratic presidential nominee 'happened to turn Black' during a contentious interview at a black journalists' association.

'She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?' Trump said.

Harris' father is Jamaican-American and that she went to a historically black college – Howard University – wondering why it was accurate to say she recently decided to be Black. (Her mother is an immigrant to the U.S. from India.)

Trump's running mate J.D. Vance has called Harris a 'chameleon' and defended Trump's earlier comments. 'I think he was observing the basic foundational reality that Kamala Harris pretends to be something different depending on what audience she’s speaking to,' Vance said after Trump's explosive comments.

Things became more outlandish this weekend when Trump claimed that he was 'better looking' than Harris.

Trump, 78, began musing on Harris' recent image on the cover of Time magazine, which he has previously compared to his wife Melania, at a rally on Saturday in Wilkes Barre.

This time, he commented on the picture's resemblance to classic Hollywood icons Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor and then took issue with a Wall Street Journal columnist remarking earlier this month on Harris' beauty.

'I am much better looking than her,' Trump said, drawing laughs from the crowd. 'I'm a better looking person than Kamala.'

His remarks Saturday came as Democrats prepare for their four-day national convention that kicks off Monday in Chicago and will mark the party's welcoming of Harris as their nominee.

Her replacement of Biden less than four months before the November election has reinvigorated Democrats and their coalition. It has also presented a new challenge for Trump.

A Trump victory seemed all but assured after he narrowly survived an assassination attempt in June, but the former president has found his campaign bogged down by a series of gaffes since Harris was named Democratic nominee.

The former president  plans to flood the airwaves with rallies, press conferences and campaign events that will run a massive counter-programming effort to the DNC.

Trump will hold events each day this week in key swing states, and his running mate Sen. J.D. Vance also plans to hit battleground states with events on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – and it all culminates in a rally on Friday.

Meanwhile, Trump's allies will run daily press conferences at Trump Hotel in Chicago, Illinois each day of the convention .

Republican surrogates coming to town for the Convention include Sens. Rick Scott (Fla.) and Ron Johnson (Wisc.) and Florida Reps. Byron Donalds and Mike Waltz. The Thursday press conference will include a 'surprise special guest.'

The first presidential debate between the two is set to be held in Philadelphia on September 10 and will be moderated by ABC News.

The first vice presidential debate between Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will take place on October 1 in New York City, and will be hosted by CBS.
