Cruel bullies have taunted an 11-year-old disabled girl by calling her fat and hairy - and even encouraging her to eat plastic beads that could kill her, the girl's mother has claimed.

Michelle Truelock told KTXS her daughter, Cari, has endured such harassment for years with little or no help from the Snyder Independent School District in Texas

She said she has done everything she knows how to do as a single mother to stop the bullying - including calling the school district and setting up meetings with administrators, and claimed other parents who have witnessed the bullying also called the school district but nothing has been done.

Meanwhile, Cari - who was born with a condition called 2q37 chromosome deletion syndrome, which causes learning disabilities and affects her memory, continues to endure name calling.

'They were calling her coochie Cari, hairy Cari, telling her to pick up the honey bun fatty,' Truelock said.

'This happened around 4pm because she was waiting for the bus,' the heartbroken mother recounted. 'I went and picked her up at 5.30pm and she could not remember from 4 to 5.30 what those kids were saying to her.'

But, Truelock said, the most traumatic thing that has been done to her daughter is when other students at the junior high school convinced her to eat Orbeez - gel beads that grow in water.

'One of the teachers called me and said Cari had been eating Orbeez on the bus,' she recounted.

'When I got her home, I asked her what are you doing? Why are you eating Orbeez? She said "because they said it would taste good."'

The beads, however, could expand inside throats and intestines if they are swallowed -  which can cause blockages.

'I am enraged,' Truelock said. 'I am petrified for my daughter. It's not fair. Her life is hard enough as it is. She shouldn't have to deal with this.'

She vowed to go to the Texas Education Department with her complaints and 'every outlet that I can find to get something done about this.'

Truelock even insinuated she is willing to bring the district to court if need be, claiming the school system is 'notorious' for bullying.

'I'm a single mom, I don't have time for all of this, but something's gotta be done,' she said.

The Snyder Independent School District says it received an email on August 16 at 9.54am about the bullying allegations - and that they would be featured in a news report.

'We want to assure our community that Snyder ISD takes all accusations of bullying with the utmost seriousness and we are actively conducting a thorough investigation into these allegations,' administration officials said.

'Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students,' they insisted.

'To assist in a swift response to accusations of bullying or any other incident where student or staff safety is compromised we ask that parents and guardians contact their school counselor or principal immediately if they have any concerns or information related to this or any other incident.

'Additionally, Snyder ISD provides an anonymous reporting process to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to report any troubling information or behavior.

'As we move forward, Snyder ISD will investigate the specific concerns reported by the news agency and review when and how the concerns were reported, how and if the procedures were followed and the supports needed to be implemented,' district officials continued.

'Our commitment is to ensure a safe and supportive environment for every student,' they concluded.

'We thank our community for cooperating as we work diligently to address this issue.'
