The key reason Rep. Byron Donalds says Kamala Harris won't interview with Elon Musk, Tucker Carlson or Megyn Kelly

Kamala Harris will hit a full month without a sit-down interview or press conference on night three of the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.

And while the vice president's campaign says she will do an interview by the end of the month, Rep. Byron Donalds says it's not soon enough and predicted she will sit-down with a friendly personality that will give her 'puff' questions.

'Hold on, I'm going to check my watch to see how long now it's gonna take,' Donalds said when speaking with DailyMail.com at Trump Tower in Chicago on Tuesday.

After looking at his wrist watch, the Florida congressman said: 'So 10 more days. So she would have been their nominee for, what, seven weeks before she does a sit-down?'

Despite the wait, Donalds thinks Harris can make-up for it by doing an interview with someone he thinks will give the Democratic nominee some 'hard-hitting questions.'

The list of those proposed by Donalds are conservative media personality Tucker Carlson, his fellow former Fox host Megyn Kelly or a live stream with Elon Musk on his X Spaces.

One thing the Republican congressman thinks is nonnegotiable is that Harris' first proper press interview after becoming the Democratic presidential candidate on July 21 should make her answer tough questions.

Donalds also wants to see Harris participate in a town hall – but refrained from giving the Democratic rival to Donald Trump too much advice.

'What she should do, is she should sit down with Tucker Carlson. If she wants a hard hitting interview, she should sit with Tucker. That's what she should do,' he told DailyMail.com after serving as a Trump surrogate speaking at a press conference on rising crime on the sidelines of the DNC.

'If you don't want to go Tucker route, okay, that's fine,' he conceded. 'I would actually think Megyn Kelly would be a great interview for her. Megyn Kelly is tough. She's fair, but she's tough. She's been tough with Donald Trump. She'll be tough with Kamala Harris.'

'She should go do an X space with Elon,' he also suggested. 'I know she might not want to do something with Elon. But she should do something live, but do it for like an hour where people get to hear you unfiltered in expounded thought.

Donalds predicted: 'I think it's about if she does some puff interview, that's just not good enough. But that's what I anticipate is going to happen.'

'She's going to do a sit down interview with somebody who's going to have kid gloves with her. They're not going to press her very often. It will be edited to tape, so they'll edit out the key things they want to show. It won't be a wide-ranging discussion.'

It's been nearly a month since Harris jumped into the presidential race and she has still not done an official interview with the media or held a press conference since launching her White House bid

The top Trump ally questioned if 60 Minutes host Lesley Stahl will be the one speaking with Harris – or another media personality he views as equally 'friendly' to Democrats.

Asked if a town hall to hear questions from voters would suffice instead of an interview or press conference, Donalds said: Well, I don't want to give her any advice.'

'I think you know, for somebody who has never gotten a vote to be a nominee ever, and by Thursday, she's going to officially be the Democrat nominee, she should actually be doing town halls around the country,' he added.

'The American people got to know who she is,' Donalds told DailyMail.com.
