Dirt biker jumping dunes in Michigan gets horrible surprise

Shocking footage shows the moment a young biker jumping over sand dunes in Michigan ended up crashing into a car - despite having spotters in the crowd. 

Josh Vodry decided that he wanted to test out a new camera and took his dirt bike out for a spin on August 10. 

When he reached the dunes, the speedster spotted a hill where about five other bikers had been jumping into the sand and decided to join them. 

Vodry told DailyMail.com: 'The people at the top of the hill were spotting for the bikers. So I joined in. Nothing crazy, so I hit the jump about five or six times and then I put my camera on my bike.'

But as he fixed his new camera and decided to go down on the hill once again, he was met with an incoming SUV that was speedily driving towards him. 

Footage from the moment shows the risktaker rapidly approaching the heavy-weight vehicle, his bike crashing into the car and Vodry flying over the SUV in the air as he fell to the ground. 

'Hit the jump a few more times then that's when the accident happened. The jeep and I both had flags and it was a 2 way in that area. 

I don't blame anyone I wish someone had stopped us but it is what it is. I'm glad everyone was okay,' he recalled. 

But as he fixed his new camera and decided to go down on the hill once again, he was met with an incoming SUV that was speedily driving towards him

As a result of the crash, he ended up with a compressed fracture on his I2 bone, a punctured upper lung and a concussion.

Despite his horrifying accident and injuries, he urged other enthusiasts to not be disheartened. 

'I hope that this video does not scare people away from the dunes. Yes it can get hectic out there, but just keep your head on a swivel and pay attention. Also have people out there that you can trust,' Vodry said. 

But as the speedster assured fans that he will return to dirt bike riding, many viewers have questioned why the spotters did not do anything to prevent the gruesome accident.

'Whole group of ppl up there to and didn't waive him off or nothing,' one TikToker noted. 

While another sarcastically added: 'Thank god there were spotters up there, someone could have gotten hurt.'

One viewer simply questioned: 'Where is the spotter?'

'Lots of people at the top of the hill doing absolutely nothing to warn either party,' another viewer quipped. 

In an Instagram post, Vodry assured concerned onlookers that the SUV driver only sustained a cut to his face after the crash.
