Social media users have been left stunned by the visual similarities between Ben Affleck and convicted murderer Scott Peterson.
The eerie comparison between inmate Peterson and actor Affleck began causing a frenzy online following the release of American Murder: Laci Peterson last week.
The Netflix docuseries debuted in the top 10 most-watched television shows list, and Peacock came out with their own show on the case - which both featured clips of Peterson before and after his pregnant wife disappeared.
After her body was washed up in the San Francisco Bay in 2003, husband Peterson, now 51, was arrested and given the death penalty for her murder.
Other than their obvious physical similarities, multiple Reddit and X users pointed towards the fact that Affleck's character in the 2014 film Gone Girl is also very similar to the true crime story of Peterson's involvement in his wife's murder.

Peterson rose to infamy following his pregnant wife Laci's disappearance on Christmas Eve in 2002.
The pair had been college sweethearts, and had a picture-perfect marriage, to those who knew the couple.
Scott was chillingly calm during press conferences about his wife's disappearance - and he was arrested after Laci and their unborn son Conner's bodies were identified in April 2003.
He was sentenced to death for murder -but was granted life without parole in 2021 after a retrial.
Gone Girl was based on the 2012 novel of the same name, which author Gillian Flynn confirmed was not entirely based on the Peterson case during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
'I definitely didn’t want to do anything specific. One could point to Scott and Laci Peterson - they were certainly a good-looking couple,' Flynn said.

'You don’t normally see incredibly ugly people who’ve gone missing, and it becomes a sensation.'
Despite the Peterson case not being the official inspiration for Gone Girl, several Reddit users still believe that Affleck was cast because of his physical similarities to killer Peterson.
'The novel was inspired by the Laci Peterson case, but it's not even close to being a fictionalized account,' a Reddit user wrote in 2020.
Others pointed out the similarities between the movie and the entire case, including its media circus.
'In both cases, a press conference was held, and vigils were organized by the families,' another Reddit user wrote.
'Scott and Nick, we were confronted with questions about whether he’s a suspect, though in real life, Scott stormed off instead of answering.'
Another similarity Reddit users didn't overlook was the affairs both Peterson and Affleck's characters started before their wives' disappearances.

Several X users have insisted that Affleck should portray Peterson in a biopic, following the Netflix documentary debut.
'It's crazy how much Scott Peterson and Ben Affleck look alike. I know he already did Gone Girl, but if they ever do a movie about Laci Peterson, Ben has to play Scott,' tweeted an X user.
Another X user wrote: 'Was Ben Affleck in a Lifetime movie about Scott Peterson.'
'I’m watching the new Laci Peterson documentary on Netflix and it is insane how much Ben Affleck’s character in Gone Girl was modeled off of Scott Peterson. All around 10/10,' wrote a tweeter.
