Meghan McCain has slammed Blake Lively for not being 'respectful' of domestic violence victims during the press tour for her movie It Ends With Us and claimed the actress may have 'done real damage to her career.'
Blake, 36, has been criticized in recent weeks for marketing her personal projects, including her haircare range and her drinks company, seemingly on the back of a film dealing with domestic violence, which is an adaptation of the bestselling book written by Colleen Hoover.
Speaking during the latest episode of her podcast, Citizen McCain, Meghan pointed out that domestic violence was 'a very serious topic.'
'So if you're taking on the responsibility of telling the story about a woman who is in a domestic violence situation, you have to be respectful that you're representing victims, millions and millions of women and men who are victims of domestic violence,' she said of Blake.
Referring to Blake's press interviews for the movie, Meghan continued: 'I was very surprised at some of her responses. I think the tone she's setting in a lot of the press with this, like saying, "Put on your florals and come together, girls."
Meghan McCain has branded Blake Lively as 'insensitive' and 'strange' during the latest episode of her podcast Citizen McCain
Meghan slammed Blake, pictured here on August 5, for not being 'respectful' of domestic violence victims during the press tour for her movie It Ends With Us
'I don't want to put florals on and go with my girlfriends and go watch a fun girl movie about domestic violence. I think that's very insensitive and very... quite frankly, strange,' the former panelist of The View said.
'I don't understand why she's famous - other than Gossip Girl and married to Ryan Reynolds - I can't actually think of any movies she's been in or projects she's worked in, I don't think I've actually seen anything she's in,' Meghan continued.
She then suggested: 'I think celebrities nowadays need to be media trained the way politicians are. I think they need to understand that we're living in just totally different times.
'And particularly when you are a person in such a high level, privileged situation, you're a beautiful blonde white woman who's married to a famous actor, you're both billionaires - you have to understand these are different times.'
The outspoken TV personality then claimed: 'I think she might have done real damage to her career because it's certainly made me look at her a little differently.
'The movie's doing really well, that doesn't mean that she's gonna go away, but I think some humility and some research on what you're representing would be prudent.
'I'm also just f**king sick of hearing about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. I feel like I hear about them all the time, because of their relationship with Taylor Swift, and I'm just sick of hearing about that and I think that's a dangerous spot for any celebrity or any person in the public eye, I'm just sick of hearing about both of them.'
When a video clip from the episode was posted on the podcast's official TikTok page, many of Meghan's followers were quick to comment and seemed to agree with her.
Blake plays the role of Lily Bloom in the film, a woman who is in an abusive relationship
The 36-year-old actress has been accused of marketing her personal projects seemingly on the back of a film dealing with domestic violence

One person claimed: 'Blake misread the room and mistook this movie for Barbie "wear your florals" so out of touch,' while another wrote: 'Very well articulated. Some media training would do her well.'
A third person said: 'Blake Lively made herself so unlikable with this press tour alone it's almost poetic,' and a fourth added: 'Unpardonable behavior on the actress's part. Plain insensitive.'
During a recent interview with Vogue, Blake said she did not step into her role as Lily Bloom in It Ends With Us 'very lightly' and said that she 'took the role seriously.'
'It Ends With Us I am so proud of. It was the most all-consuming film I've ever been a part of on camera and off camera,' she told the publication.
'Because of that, it is so deeply personal to me. The book that Colleen wrote resonated with so many people for so many years. To take on a character and to step into a film that means so much was a great responsibility that I didn't take lightly.'
