An alleged identity thief has been arrested seconds after thinking he got away with buying two cars in a dead man's name.
William Hayes, 63, was filmed grinning ear-to-ear as he shook hands with a car dealer at Gossett Kia in Memphis on August 10.
Staff gave him a round of applause after he dropped $158,885 on two Kia Telluride SUVs, and told him, 'Congratulations, my friend.'
But the smile was wiped off Hayes' face moments later when police walked in and handcuffed him, with the keys still in his pocket.

Little did he know that the dealership's staff clocked the Tennessee driver's license allegedly belonging to a dead man straight away and called the cops.
They were playing along the whole time, letting him think they were fooled and even pretending to let him sign to paperwork.
'Officers took the male into custody after he completed the purchase paperwork. He had the keys to both vehicles at the time of his arrest,' Memphis police said.
Footage of Hayes being fooled into thinking he got away with his alleged crime, and his subsequent arrest, was posted online to mock him.
Hayes was charged with forgery worth $60,000 to $250,000 and attempted theft of property worth $60,000 to $250,000.
His bond was set at $50,000, though was unclear if he made bail or if he has entered a plea at this time.
