Tennis fans looking to avoid spending thousands of dollars on a US Open ticket can still enjoy the event for free.

Tennis enthusiasts who were not lucky enough to purchase a ticket to next week's matches can enjoy the event's annual free Fan Week, going on now until August 25.

Fan Week attendees have the option to watch various practice sessions or qualifying games, which feature athletes like Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz.

The US Open has allowed spectators to watch the pre-tournament rounds for free since the event moved to USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 1978.

Fan Week's popularity has grown over the last 15 years. By2011, 56,000 Tennis fans were attending its practice games.

Crowds swelled even more once it started offering music, children's events, and tennis clinics.

All food concession stands also opened for the first time during the qualification rounds in 2017.

'I've been coming for 15 years and it’s bigger than ever,' architect Lissette Molina-Gurevich told The New York Times

'I think it’s actually worth paying for, but don’t tell anyone I said that.'

Nicole Kankam, a managing director of the US Tennis Association, originally thought of Fan Week as a 'big secret.'

She added, 'Only the die-hard fans knew you could see great tennis for free. But every year we’ve added new layers,' while speaking NYT.

This year's qualifying rounds consisted of 128 men and 128 women who fought for one of 16 spots in the US Open's main draw.

Each athlete played three matches, and the players who won three in a row got a spot in next week's events.

'Our research shows that the tennis is still the top reason people come out,' Kankam said earlier today.

'These players are out there fighting to get the last spots into the main draw.'

The qualifying rounds end tonight, and it will air on ESPN+ until 9:00.
