Rumer Willis confirms split from baby daddy Derek Richard Thomas: 'I am single momming it and co-parenting'

Rumer Willis confirmed her split from Derek Richard Thomas, 16 months after the birth of their daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, in April 2023.

The daughter of former Hollywood power couple Bruce Willis and Demi Moore revealed the news during an 'uncensored' Instagram AMA (ask me anything). 

After a fan asked if she and Derek were still together, the actress, 36, replied: 'Nope I am single momming it and co-parenting.' 

'I'm so grateful for Lou,' she continued. 'She is the best thing in my life and I am forever grateful I was able to have the time in that relationship for her to come into my life.' 

It is unknown exactly when Rumer and Derek first started dating, but they first went public with their romance in November 2022.

Their breakup comes nearly a year and a half after the pair welcomed their first child together. 

After revealing the news, she noted that she was 'definitely' still open to having more children as a single mother because she wants her little one to have siblings. 

Siblings ins one of the best parts of my entire life,' she noted. 'I want that for Lou. So open to whatever that looks like in the future.' 

When asked how many children she wants, Rumer responded: '6 or 7.'

In March, Rumer took to social media to say she 'absolutely' wants more children and wished she was 'pregnant right now.' 

Earlier this year, she also discussed 'finding' her 'way back' to herself postpartum.

'Last year was incredibly dynamic, I grew a human being, gave birth at home (with no drugs) surrounded by my family,' she continued.

'Navigated a new relationship while being pregnant and postpartum, fell in love with the tiny love of my life Lou, softened, became less resistant to my own bulls**t, threw pots on a wheel, did 6am ocean swims 4x a week in the winter, learned about what real intimacy looks like.'

She went on: 'Working on being the most honest authentic version of myself, healing my trauma so I don’t pass it on to my daughter, celebrated 7 years of sobriety, showed myself im not a weenie hehe.

'Took a plunge in the ice cold river, loved myself more than I ever have, felt more beautiful and comfortable in my skin than I ever have, laughed, cried, fought, primal screamed, took ownership, met new friends...' she continued.

From the moment they found out they were going to be parents, Rumer says they were 'so excited.' 

'It was never a question for me that I wanted to be a mom,' she said on a February 2023 episode of Peggy Rometo and Kimberly Van Der Beek's podcast Bathroom Chronicles. 'And that just felt like such a divine purpose and something that when I started thinking about it, felt like such joy.'

While celebrating last Valentine's Day in 2023, he shared a sweet slideshow of photos of Rumer over their relationship and her pregnancy.

'I’m so glad you are who you are. You’re genuinely so kind, funny, talented, intelligent, sexy and wise. You’ve changed my life forever, and for the better.' 

He continued: 'I’m beyond grateful that we get to make a family together. Thank you for growing our child from scratch, I have so much reverence and respect for this journey you’re on. We’re on it together, but you’re doing all the heavy lifting and I get to just cheer you on, feed you tacos and appreciate you.'
