A would-be wedding guest was shocked to learn that she had be disinvited from a destination wedding after she'd already shelled out $1K on flights for the big day.

A Redditor posted under the username, 'Powerful-Lettuce-999,' and wrote: 'Just got uninvited from a destination wedding,' in the popular 'wedding' subreddit.

The guest, who is based in America, explained in the post that the bride notified their university friend group about the wedding day in Asia, a year prior.

She had already booked her expensive plane ticket, when her friend group got a text from the bride stating: 'Hey guys, I'm so sorry to tell you this, but I don't have any accommodation left for y'all for the wedding.

'I sincerely apologize. I hope y'all haven't booked tickets as yet.'

The shocked guest messaged the bride privately, and told her: 'Hey, I literally just booked my tickets and everything, like three days ago, cause our agent knew and found something (I don’t think the rest did idk).

'I’m gonna try to cancel, but I don’t think I can. I understand how the space was limited [for] family and all that, so it’s fine, no worries.'

The bride told the Redditor to let her know if she can't cancel the flight, and that she'll 'figure something out.'

The bride also told the guest: 'Please don't tell the rest of the group,' and added as a head's up that 'the hotel staff are not budging on accommodations.'

The Redditor was left with two options.

The first being to 'cancel and get a partial refund.'

As for the second option, she explained: 'I can attend and feel like it’s an obligatory invite because I was uninvited.

'If I attend, my friends would feel horrible that I got to go and they didn't.'

The guest admitted in the post: 'Please some advice? I am feeling so embarrassed, because I already told my friends and family I was invited to a destination wedding, and to tell people I was uninvited is so embarrassing.

'I was super excited about this, and really happy for her. I feel so icky about all of this.

'I wish she had at least extended wedding invites if they can’t do accommodations. I’d understand and book my own accommodation.'

The Redditor went back to 'edit' her post and added: 'My friend did message her in the group chat to ask if we are no longer being given accommodations or no invites in general.

'She did tell me privately that she will adjust and accommodate me if I can’t cancel my tickets. But, please do not tell the rest, as she needs to cut the list.'

The Redditor provided further insight in the comments.

One person commented: 'Are there zero hotels or Airbnb's in the area?'

The guest responded: 'There's plenty. So that's why I'm confused. Like, I'm going to ask her again if the issue is accommodation or wedding size in general.'

Another person commented: 'Y'all can't just stay somewhere else? This is so weird.'

The Redditor replied: 'Exactly! This option has not been presented to us yet. But even if she now says, "please feel free to stay elsewhere and still attend," would you still go after how she rescinded the invited? I'm not sure what to do.'

The post got more than 230 votes and 69 mixed comments.

Some users came up with theories as to why the awkward situation occurred.

One person wrote: 'Makes me think she invited way more people than she could have accommodated, and didn’t think that many people would actually show up for her destination wedding.'

A second person added: 'Sounds like [the] bride is over budget, and is cutting her invite list to save money. Guests could always book their own hotel.'

Most users provided the guest with advice.

One person wrote: 'She's trash for this and I'd honestly still take the trip and forget her wedding and unfriend her.'

The bride continued: 'I sincerely apologize. I hope y'all haven't booked tickets as yet'

A second person added: 'I say go to Asia anyway and just do something else besides that wedding. That’s what I would do.'

A third person commented: 'Screw this "friend." If you can’t cancel your plane, change it and go somewhere else. Life is too short to have people like that in it.'

A fourth person wrote: 'I went to S.E. Asia by myself and had the BEST time. Go to Asia [and] skip the wedding! Have a great time!'

A fifth person added: 'I’d be cutting this person off and making this into a vacation.'

One person wrote: 'Keep your tickets, go have a great vacation, and don’t give her a second thought.'

Another person commented: 'I would take the vacation and ditch the wedding.'
