When one of the assailants attempted to pick up the motorcycle, the driver charged forward again, striking the bike and knocking the suspect to the ground.
After the thieves fled, the driver returned to check on the woman who was targeted.
The National Police launched a search for the two suspects, who remained on the run as of Tuesday.
The incident comes after Yuliano Salazar, a 22-year-old with 40 percent mental capacity, ran over four suspects and killed two after they attempted to rob him on a motorcycle.
Prosecutors charged him with culpable homicide and placed him in pretrial detention.
President Daniel Noboa issued a statement in defense of Salazar and slammed the judicial system for faulting the university student.

According to statistics released by the Attorney General's Office earlier this month, there were 182,293 incidents of crime registered during the first six months of this year in Ecuador.
A total of 43,475 of the incidents were reported as robberies, with 16,444 occurring in the province of Guayas, topping all other provinces.
A total of 10,760 of the robberies were reported in Guayaquil, the capital of Guayas.
