A pilot and passenger miraculously escaped without any major injuries after their light aircraft crashed onto a busy road.

The pair's powered glider 'stalled and nose dived' onto the A419 in Gloucestershire at 4.45pm on Tuesday afternoon.

Images show the two occupants in shock amidst the wreckage as one of the vehicle's wings appears to have been ripped off from the main body.

The heart-stopping crash caused major disruptions as police closed the road in both directions, leading to a long line of cars being held up at the scene.

Emergency services scrambled to help the duo and the Great Western Air Ambulance was among the 999 crews called to reports of the downed aircraft.

Neither are believed to have been seriously injured, as the air ambulance stood down soon after arriving.
