True crime fanatics have slammed a new Netflix show after a teaser trailer for the upcoming series Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story was released.

Co-created by Ryan Murphy, the first season of Monsters was about the gay cannibal serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who was played by Evan Peters.

The show was highly controversial and sparked social media users to slam  the makers for earning money off the grief of the victims' loved ones.

Now, for season two, the anthology has turned its attention to another infamous true crime story: the Menendez brothers, who murdered their parents in 1989, and start streaming on Netflix from September 19.

However, before it's even released, it seems that the show is already the source of contention as people have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air out their complaints.

In the blood-curdling new sneak peek, Lyle and Erik can be seen entering their Beverly Hills mansion, shotguns in hand, ready for the kill.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch play Lyle and Erik Menendez, the wealthy brothers at the center of the story, respectively.

Their parents, record executive Jose and socialite Kitty, whom they shot in their living room on the night of August 20, 1989, are played by Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny.

Lyle was 21 and Erik was 18 when they slaughtered their parents, triggering a rollercoaster legal drama that resulted in their conviction of murder in 1996.

Their trials were televised and attracted a feverish media frenzy - the first court cases to become the type of TV sensation later epitomized by OJ Simpson.

The Menendez brothers put forward the 'abuse excuse,' alleging that they were molested and physically assaulted by their parents for years.

Ultimately, the Menendez brothers were sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

In the teaser, the family is seen smiling for an infamous family photo.

Then, it cuts to the two brothers, shirtless, hugging.

People on the web had plenty to say about this dramatic moment - with many of them furious.

One person said: 'There’s no reason for this show to exist. Just hearing the actual testimonies of the brothers was repulsive enough, to have it immortalized by recreating such nasty things for the screen is deeply perverted.'

Someone else added: 'We better not romanticize these villains. It’s already giving could have been college athletes - bright futures - better do right by the victims.'

One user wrote: 'Not every story needs to be filmed and then told.'

'Why give these two attention for murdering their parents?' another asked.

However, other people said they couldn't wait to watch the show and defended the brothers while also slamming the show maker.

One person said: 'I swear if y'all made this just to paint them as the villain don't even bother dropping it.'

Another user wrote: 'Leave it to Ryan to add gay overtones to something that had nothing of the sort. This is how we make gayness divisive in media.'

Someone else said: 'I hope they are going to be true and respectful of the testimony of the boys and members of the family.

'Is murder wrong? Absolutely. But the horrific sexual abuse of these boys for the majority of their life, the way people saw and did nothing, is a tragedy.'

One user questioned: 'Umm, was there some incestuous brotherly love twist to this story that I was completely unaware of… or is that homoeroticism just Ryan Murphy??'

'Why does this guy try and make literally everything sexual?' a person wrote.

One user added: 'Why is this being sold as a gay story when it's about two crazy siblings?'

Another wrote: 'Ryan Murphy is a sick f***. Last I checked the brothers were not incest with one another, it was their parents…. So to allude to them having a relationship because of the abuse just seems more like something we think happened but don’t know if it did or not. So this is weird.'

'I absolutely can't wait to watch this,' one person added.

'Can't wait,' a user commented.

Further in the trailer, the brothers are seen pulling into their lavish mansion.

They entered through the home with guns in hand. As they cock their guns, the screen goes black and viewers can hear two ear-pounding gun shots.

The series will hit Netflix on September 19.

Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story hit  Netflix in September 2022 and became a runaway hit, while sharply polarizing the audience.

Many viewers claimed it was disrespectful to the dead while the sister of the one of the victims publicly blasted the 'harsh and careless' series for 'making money off of this tragedy' out of 'greed.'

Ryan struck a defiant tone, claiming he had attempted to contact the victims' loved ones but never heard back from any of them.

'We, over the course of the three-and-a-half years when we were writing it, working on it, we reached out to around 20 of the victims’ families and friends trying to get input, trying to talk to people, and not a single person responded to us in that process,' the Glee and American Horror Story creator insisted.
